Most miles you had on your Suburban?
Just wanted to prove these things are built to last.

Im sitting at just under 134,000 miles on my 1986. I put about 4,000 miles a year on it. Even when it was my daily driver, I only put about 5-6,000 miles a year on it.

My last beater burb ( the bananna boat) had 260K on the original driveline. It was an ex fire dept. rig 350/sm465/205 10.5 14 bolt 4.56's
That was one tough *****. Had no power steering (factory)!! stock heavy duty oil cooler, what appeared to be a big block radiator, dual batterys. vinal seats (2 rows only) and skid plates on everything. It went under the knife not long ago the rust got ahold of her. guess I should have washed the mud and salt off it every so often. |

Seen Lots
I've seen lots in the bone yard with 450,000kms/270,000 miles and 350,000 kms/210,000 miles, and the only reason they are there is cause they were in an accident..You feed em gas and they are just like the "Eveready Bunny", they just go and go and go!!!!

240,000 on my 86 3/4 ton 4 speed 4x4. I just put new quarters and rockers on it. The new carpet and front seat upolstery is in the garage waiting to be put in. Motor is original, still holds 45 psi of oil pressure going down the highway and I have never put a quart of oil in it between changes. I know it's the orignal motor because I bought it from a friend of mine that bought it new.

156k on my 87, 110k on it when I bought it 3 years ago. Purchased from the original owner, and the mileage is accurate.
It may not seem high, but it runs very well. Blows a little smoke on startup, but it hasn't been an issue so I haven't done anything with it.

EDIT: 4-14-05. Trans finally died at 310,000. Original tranny too. Motor still rocks. Last edited by 86dieselburb; 04-15-2005 at 01:00 PM. |

400,000 km on stock driveline and front suspension. The stock 305 bent a push rod and the tranny burnt obout the same time. We sold it with 465,000 kms on it for $5000.

286,000km on my '84. Should actually be a little higher as I haven't recalibrated the speedo after changing the axle ratio.

Hey guys,
First post and a long time lurker. Short story as to my stumbling across this board and the miles of my truck. In December I flew to Dallas and bought "Jack", an 87 Suburban with only 108,000 miles for $1,000.00. On the drive home the transmission went out. Stuck along the highway in Arkansas until I could be towed to Memphis by my dad. He drove from Dallas and towed me to Memphis. After getting the transmission replaced, the engine started smoking and the brake light came on. At this point I decided in for a penny in for a pound and started the restoration process. In the last three months I have had the engine replaced, radiator, starter, alternator, water pump, wheels and tires, carrier bearings, ujoints, brakes, interior including carpet, instrument cluster, led lights in the dash, billet accessories including: shifter, dash, door panel inserts, and dash trim, new headliner, dash, leather seats on the first and second rows and a new stereo system and an alarm. As of today I have almost $14,000 in it and I am wondering where the end is in sight. I am having a garage do most of the work as I have no space to work on it and am not mechanically inclined. Wish I was. And no, I dont have money to throw around just feel like that if I am going to do it might as well do it right. Last thing left on this is a paint job. I like to one on it but my wife and daughters hate it. Orginally it was purchased as a temporary vehicle but now I wont be able to get out what I have in it so i will drive it until the wheels fall off. Thanks for letting me lurk on here and I look forward to meeting some of ya'll in the future.

Hey guys, I just found this site and I'm relieved that there are more Burb finatics out there like myself. lol I have an 84 Sub, 4x4...just over 325K miles on it. The engine runs like a champ, but I think it's about time that I put a new engine in (even tho it's breaking my heart) No place to work on my truck around here...since I live in the city (and they usually frown upon engine rebuilds on the street lol) So, it's coming down to the wire for me to decide. But anyway, just figured I'd drop my first line in this thread -- it is apparent that Suburbans are a work horse
