Just checked my axle ratio...
Bought my Blazer back in November but just got it on the road earlier this month. I thought it had the 3.42 axles under it like my '80 K-10 but wasn't positive. It felt seriously under-powered compared to the pick-up but I figured it was just because of the 2" bigger tires.
Boy, was I wrong. Was at the tire shop today getting new wheels put on, so I took the opportunity to do some axle spinning and check the ratio. Yep, you guessed it. I'm stuck with the suck-ass GU2 2.73 axles. I'm turning like 1700 rpm on the freeway, according to the ratio charts. It's pretty sad when I'm thinking about swapping in my K-10 3.42s to gain some more power! Oh well... I guess those will have to tide me over till I find a good D44/14FF 4.10 setup.

I'll swap in the 3.42s I have under my truck for now. That will help until I can find a 3/4 or 1-ton setup.

My neighbor bought an 81 short bed 4x4 on 33's thinking it would tow his new 30' travel trailer with no problems. After the first trip to the mountains he said it didn't have the oomph he wanted. We pulled the covers and found the beloved 2:73's. He decided to go with 4:10's. Made a world of difference but now we don't know how far off the speedo is...

They have different color speedo gears that go in the auto trannys where the speedo cable screws on. One little bolt and put the proper gear in and screw back together and you should be back to accu. speed.

The different color gears can only help you so much before youhave to go to a reduction unit. I know mine is WAY off right now, so I did some research to find out just how much. Found this web site:
http://www.speedometershop.com/ratio.html That's about as accurate as you can get!

Plus hours of labor. Plus I'm stuck with 1/2-ton running gear. That's my last resort. I'm looking for an M1008 for now.
