Water Collecting in Inner Fender Wells

Hi folks.
Anyone else have issues with water collecting in the inner fender wells on their truck at the front? Is this a design issue or do I have something wrong here? I know best way around would be to drill a drain hole but if this is an issue I'm sure there would have been a factory fit for it by 72!!

Cheers
Lee

I don't think they cared back then. They weren't about to retool and create new dies just for a drain hole. Mine also does that. Drill a hole.

Yep, drill a hole and keep area clean, because that area collects dust, dirt, bugs, leaves, water, battery acid on passenger side ... etc...

Most of the trucks I see are missing the area that curves under on the passenger side ( or are full of bondo there...) I assume it has something to do with the battery or it being hard to access. Be comforted by the fact that it is something we all have to deal with.

By design there is supposed to be a bit of a drain hole on the inner edge of the front fender. But, over time, rags, beer cans etc. collect there. Easy to clean out--just get all the junk out of there then wash it out with a hose--drill a hole ---then when clean and dry, paint it with something that will seal it real good----POR15, Oil based paint, or tar!!! It will then outlast the rest of the truck.

Just like other areas on the truck the drain holes get plugged....

You may find a PO has left something in there that has plugged the hole.

There are some conspiracy theorists who would have you believe that greedy corporate moguls would deliberatly design products to eventually fail. This and planned obselesence would encorage style conscious consumers to purchase newer products before there existing ones had outlived their usefullness. Or maybe they just screwed up. Now I gotta go adjust the tin foil linning my walls.

I drilled the hole... Then after a few weeks noticed a HUGE rust stain developing on my driveway right beneath my new drain hole. Ended up removing the battery tray and fenderwell to clean the fender pocket(?) then Por-15'd it. CLR'd the driveway no more rust stain.
