Convert Dually to singles? Questions...
Been on the lookout for 85-87 3/4 ton 4x4's with little luck.
Seen some dually 4x4's pickups and wondering how difficult it is to take one from a dually to single rear wheels? Is it as simple as changing rims on both front and rear? What about front hubs / calipers? I believe they have extention on them. Thanks, Daubs

good luck finding a 3/4 ton 4x4 dually. every K series dually i have seen has a DRW Dana 60 under the front, which was exclusive to the 1 ton K30. as far as changing a K30 from SRW to DRW, the front axle is a matter of changing the bearing hubs. everything else is the same. the rear axle is a totally different story. you must change the entire assembly from the current Corprate 14 bolt, to a Dana 70 from a dually. also make sure to get a Dana 70 with a gearset that matches your front gears, otherwise you'll have to regear one or the other.

There is not a factory 3/4 ton dually. All Duallys are 1-tons. The change over would be simple if you had axles from the single wheel 4wd and just wanted the extra capacity of the one ton.
What exactly are you looking for? I see 3/4 tons FS all of the time...not very many duallys ( especially in 4wd)

I understood his question...maybe my response didn't indicate that, but I do understand he wants to go to a single wheel 1-ton 4wd...right?

Yes, when all is said and done, I want a single rear wheel 4x4 truck. I have seen a few one ton 4x4's with dual tires on back and flat bed. Wondering what takes to take them from dual rear wheels to single rear wheels.
Crews: Let me know if you spot any 3/4 ton 4x4's in the 85-87 range. I'd really like a custom deluxe, plain-jane with no AC, no PW or PL's. Simple.

he wants a 1 ton dually, then go single wheel- keeping the D70 (or equiv) and frame strength
The drums will be a b!tch to work with, As far as i know, they have some sort of modification on them- i think you have to have the drums turned down or something at a machine shop. Fronts would stick out with normal rims, can't remember what you have to do there. |
