I finally had the inner and outer passenger side rocker and cab supports replaced on my 70 stepside. I also had the cab mounts and bushing replaced. The pictures tell the story. The shop was American Pride Collision in Collinsville. They did excellent work. They said that they are interested in doing restorations. Phone # 618-345-7872. They charged me $600 and I provided the parts which I bought from GMC Pauls. Now I'm saving my money to have the drivers side done.

Dang I wish I could find a place in San Jose that would do the for 600. Everyone around here wants 900-1200.

Dave 3156-I'm curious to know if the door should be on the truck when installing new rockers (for better fit) or does it matter at all? Truck looks good by the way.

It's always a good idea to get the door and fender aligned properly before you install new rockers. Lord knows the factory didn't care. This is your chance to get a perfect gap with the doors/fender. I'd get everything aligned and tacked up. I'd then remove the fender and door for the finish welding/grinding. That's how I plan to do mine someday...... just my $.02.

Dave: did you ask them to not weld up the "butt" at the back of the rocker? Some guys prefer to keep the joint but I think I'm going to weld mine solid for a cleaner look. Just curious. They did some awesome work, and I love the color. I want to paint my truck Maui Blue and it looks similar to that color.

They removed the door and fender (later) when they did it and aligned everything. I pretty much just gave them the truck and let them make the decisions on how to do it. Also the seat and carpeting was removed so they could weld to the floor. The floor itself was not bad enough that it needed replaced. They coated it inside and out. I stopped in each day and checked on the work. They had the truck three days. I asked him if the opening needed braced before the rocker was removed and he said the roof and cab structure will not allow the opening to change when the rocker is removed since the truck was being supported by the frame from underneath (work was done with truck on lift) and not through the suspension of the truck. More pictures attached.
