Does deisel trucks need to be smogged?

Hey Guys:
I hope everybody has a good weekend, I don't!!. Marriage problem. Sorry about the vent!. I was talking to some body few days ago and smog issue came up. I live in CA. It might be stupid but I don't know the answer. Do they need smog certification, if not what they need?

I don't believe that there are smog requirements for any California diesel vehicles.

I do know that the Trucks that are deisel at work are not smogged, but they have what is called a "Smoke" test. They are Big Trucks with Cummins So I dont know about pick-ups. And I work for the local government and "we" still have to do it.

I think with a "smoke test" they are measuring the amount of particulates the engine spews out.

No smog check required but occasionally they will call someone into the office so they can verify that it has not been converted over to gas.

In Nevada they run them on a dyno for the smog test.
