how to match cab and frame #'s...
I'm pretty sure I have the "correct" cab on my SWB frame I'm selling, but... How do I verify the cab #'s match the frame #'s ? I took the cab off the frame back in 2000, and I am pretty sure I have the right frame. Although I have 3 SWB frame with no cab's, 1 I purchased w/o a cab, another I cut up the cab (it was wasted, never seen a cab so rusty, + no title), then this cab & frame.
Are the VIN #'s on the frame? or frame numbers on the VIN tag? or what exactly? thanks for any help...

Look on the left side frame rail just behind the front shock.

Frames have part of the vin stamped on them to check matching.
Some 67 frames do not have this typically stamped on the frames. Typically you have a vin for example of CE142S124456 On the frame you would typically see the latter part of the vin, using above example ..stamping could be as detailed as 2S124456 on the frame. you could identify its a 72 frame built at St Louis Plant, rest is sequence number which should be a match if checking for matching numbers. The frame wouldnt need to have the engine body style or GVW range as those interchange with different model using the same frame....being a frame can have a generic application such as for cab and chassis, compared to fleet side, compared to step side, suburban, panel etc,. Engines also varied in a frame. as well as cab type. So you can match cab and frame by using method I described. You can also get a general idea of what a frame was for. Knowing different crossmembers and such that were riveted in from factory is further way to identify application...but more observation experience needed for that type diagnoisis. After a while you look and can figure it out.

Not the best pic here but you may be able to see a partial vin stamped on the frame.
You'll see a 1 and a Z and other numbers... so, It's a 71 frame from Fremont Assembly plant and match up the sequence to a cab vin to verify matching numbers.
