Fan shroud mounting
It appears that some sort of spacer is needed on the fan shroud screws. I don't know for sure, since my truck was butchered in some areas by the P.O. This is on my 69, 350 w/ a/c. When I took it apart there wer 4 different size screws with nuts for spacers.

If there were nuts on it for spacers, it sounds like the wrong radiator support brackets are bolted on the radiator support. There shouldn't be any spacers.

The bottom of the shroud is attached to the radiator support with clips. I'll post a pic of them if you want.

The originals were a little bigger. GM discontinued them and replaced them with these.

I took some pictures, hopefully one of y'all can figure out what's not right. There's about a 3/8" gap between the shroud and the upper support. It's a 4 core radiator.

I think you may need the longer retainers for a four core radiator. Those look like the shorter retainers ( for a three core ). They should sit flat on the radiator. Maybe the pic is just deceiving. Sorry I was'nt able to help.

That was my first thought, as well, gonebad2. I would follow gb2's advice and count the rad's cores. If you have a 4-core rad, then a previous owner must have installed the rad without also upgrading to 4-core supports. I'm concerned with what the rad's tank bottoms look like in their 3-core rubber cushions and metal rad supports.

If you use the 3 core mounts with a 4 core radiator, you run the risk of vibration on metal to metal contact wearing a hole in your radiator.

I found some problems by doing some measuring, old against new. The new radiator is 1/4" wider and taller. The new radiator cushions are 1/8" thicker than the old. Add that up, and there is an additional 1/2" of height. The ribs on the tank were against the core support at the top, took care of that by notching the flange on the core support. I haven't arrived at a solution to the height issue, yet. Need to do some clearance checks with the hood.
Also, the bottom edge of the fan shroud doesn't match up with the core support. Now, while I mutter some words about aftermarket parts.

I'm no small block expert but that looks nothing like the shroud on my big block trucks. It does look a lot closer to a shroud for a later year truck. I can post pics tomorrow if needed.

The shroud clips on my truck look different, they're bigger and stick out more than the ones gonbad2 posted a pic of. Anyway here's a pic of a 4 core rad. hold down with the correct hex head screw for holding the top of the rad. shroud to it, not sure if it's gonna help you or not. Sorry about the pics, the webcam is all I have to work with right now. FYI these are about 6.5" long, you might wanna measure the ones on your truck and see if they're shorter or not.

FRED -- I WASN'T GOING TO REPLY TO YOUR THREAD, BECAUSE I WAS SURE SOMEONE WOULD COME UP WITH A SOLUTION. IT'S PRETTY SIMPLE. GO TO YOUR LOCAL BONE YARD & GET A FAN SHROUD OFF OF A 70s OR 80s CHEVY VAN. IT WILL BOLT RIGHT UP & LOOKS RIGHT. YOU CAN ALSO GET THE UPPER & LOWER MOUNTS FOR A 4 CORE RADIATOR & CLIPS TO HOLD IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SHROUD FROM A VAN TOO. (THEY ARE THE SAME AS TRUCKS) WHEN INSTALLING NEW RUBBER CUSHINS, THEY TEND TO BE A LITTLE TALLER AT FIRST, BUT AFTER A WHILE THE RUBBER MASHES DOWN. I LIKE TO JUST REPLACE THE BOTTOM ONES FIRST, & PUT IT TOGETHER WITH THE OLD TOP ONES. THEN AFTER THEY'VE BEEN IN THERE FOR ABOUT A MONTH, I PUT THE NEW TOP ONES IN. Thanks a bunch, John. Now I have to wait and hope the weekend weather is good. I was getting ready to start machining some fittings, but a trip to the boneyard is easier.
