Cd player install
Has anyone tried or has had their stereo installed in the glove box.( I am going to put the original Am radio back in to keep the vehicle stock looking) I am trying to think of a good place to mount it where it would be fairly accessible. any ideas as how to mount it in the glovebox ?

when I had mine in the glovebox, i just kinda set it in there, didnt hold it down with anything. it worked pretty good and never skipped. i did clear out some space in the rear so the heat sink wouldnt be touching the cardboard, tho.

Did you have the stock liner in you glovebox or did you fabricate something ?

I shipped mine today to have the original AM converted into a AM/FM with the jacks on the back for a CD player or sattelite radio. I think that it is a good way to go, but is pretty expensive.

Had the deck and disc changer in there!
Use the 4 screw holes that hold the glovebox in so there is no mods! Rest the weight of it on the heater I used a big sponge inbetween the wood and heater box! Cheers

I want to be able to have the glovebox door closed so the stereo can not visible as I will be applying for colletor plates when the truck is finished.

This is how I did mine. I used a AC liner because the rigid cardboard is strong and helps support the radio nicely. I made a sleeve out of sheet metal and rivited "L" brackets to the sleeve then rivited the sleeve to the glovebox liner for support. Slide the radio in and put screws thru the sleeve. I then trimmed it out in ABS plastic. I used bullet connectors to remove/repair anytime I want. I am installing a unit soon in my dads truck and plan to do something different with his to incorporate CD storage. Here are a few pics I found. Hope it helps.

70c-10 did you use the AC liner to make your glovebox or is that the original liner. What you did is what I was thinking of doing looks good. Jerry

Jerry, I used an original AC liner and just cut out the opening. My truck has no AC in it.

You could make a console for the cd player. That's what I did. The console also holds my aftermarket guages and drinks. I made the console fit tight, and didn't mount it to anything. Therefore, I drilled no holes in the lower dash. I made it out of 3/4" particle or wafer board, and covered it with speaker box carpet. I am considering recovering it with green vinyl in order to match my interior. You can check it out on my link at the bottom of this post.

This is how I'm thinking of doing mine. I like the look of the radio delete in the dash...

If you guys use you glove compartment for the cd player, where do you put all of the stuff that would usually go in the glove compartment? Like fuses, and the registration, and insurance card, and napkins, and lug nut key, and cd player faceplate container?

Just a question, but has anyone tried putting the stereo in a center console, like the one that came with the original buckets. I don't mean create one under the dash, but use an actual center console, an original or something out of a newer truck, where you could close the top and "hide" the stereo. This would also give you very easy access to the stereo instead of having to reach across the dash to change cd's....just a thought. Anyone done this or have pics???

K series consols are great to work with!
You can cut and paste some fiberglass to them for more option or to cover more space! |
