Angry Help ! Transfer Case Noise !!

Going To Work This Morning, And I Start Hearing This Noise. I First Thought I Had Broken A Fan Belt. Put It In Neutral, Rev'd Engine It Stopped Making Noise, So I Kept Going...(wrong Move)
About 15 Minutes Later I Stopped At A Stop Sign And When I Started To Pull Off This Terrible Noise Starts Again. It Is Definitely The Transfer Case (got Out And Looked) Turned The Truck Off, Cranked It Back Up And It Drove Fine On To Work. My Mechanic Looked At It And Said He Thinks Something Has Come Loose In The Transfer Case? I Don't Have A Clue! Any Suggestions
1987 Silverado 4x4, Warn Hubs 350 Engine, Automatic Transmission
I Think It Is A 208 Transfer Case, If That Helps
