Everything 75 - 87 is HEI, 81-up is ESC: Electronic SparK Control - or Extremely Stupid Crap to those that love to hate it. If you have ESC on there (it will have a computer running to the distributor) you may want to consider GM's solution to the problems associated with the ESC system, eliminate it.
See here for info:

if its hei it should have a little box coming off the side of the distributor cap. This is where your coil and tach should plug into...Later Mike

Guess it might depend on the truck and motor. Have seen them on more 305 setups. My 84 c-30 350, came non-ecs. Cap & rotor shouldn't matter, the ignition module would. Non-ecs shouldn't have a vacuum advance canister on it.

Yes, post-75 is HEI. No 350s had ESC, only the 305 (5.0L) V-8s and 4.3L V-6s.

The reason ESC wasn't in 350's is because 350's weren't offered from the factory in halftons from 81-86. 3/4T-up got 350's though, and they didn't have ESC.
