Light wiring for gauges?
I have added Autometer tach, volts, and oil pressure gauges in a tri holder on the bottom of my dash. I would like to hook up the light bulbs for night driving, so I can keep an eye on things.
What wire can I tap into. The bulbs in the stock dash are fed by a printed circuit , so I don't think I can find a place to splice into there. I don't have a light on my cigarette lighter either. What have some of you done to hook up accessory gauge lighting?

You can tap directly to the panel light fuse, in your fuse box. they will dim and brighten as the dash lights do when you turn the headlight knob.

71Chev - Can you help me with a bit better description. Where on the fuse panel is the plug for the panel lights? My fuse panel has most of the white lettering wiped off of it. Not real good with wiring , in case you could'nt tell

If you have a tilt style column in your
truck, there 'should' be a grey wire coming from the fusebox...it goes to the light in the column to light the P R N D L2 L1 bezel Just tap into that wire for your new gage back lights..., just make sure your gauge housings are connected to a ground to make it all work ------------------ 71 Chevy C-10 SWB Fleetside WAS:307w/3-on-the-tree NOW:350TBI/700R4/3.73 See it at www.prismnet.com/~grzanich

You can also use the gray wire that feeds the bulb or bulbs on your heater control or
heater ac control, which ever you have. If you tie into that wire your lights will dim with the dimmer. Jim
