What The Heck Is This?

I Just Brought This 72 Long Bed Home And I Noticed This Extra Coil Spring Over The Axle. Is This Aftermarket? Has Anyone Seen This Before?

add on overload oil springs, I got a set from JCwhitney years ago for a F**d truck. Some come with clamps for the axles so you don't have to weld them on. I've seen them on leaf spring trucks mainly. Most people would have just replaced the main coils...
