Aftermarket vs. GM vs. parting out?

Want to get some opinions on body panels, fenders, doors, etc. I'll soon have a 72 K20 and thinking I will need two new doors (unless my welding skills get really good and I decide to replace bottoms)

Was thinking about getting aftermarket doors from someone like LMC or Year One. Buddy said he purchased aftermarket and GM parts and had much better luck installing GM parts. The aftermarket parts needed lots of help to fit right.

What do you all recommend? Or should I just post messages here and find a parting out truck with good doors?

I strongly suggest that you find a good set of used doors, they are out there, just got look. My exprerience with aftermarket doors hasn't been that great. Goodmark makes very nice hoods, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a hood, but not the doors.

I was told that any parts GM currently sells are offshore anyway. You'd have to find NOS stuff to get original GM parts.

Over here you can pick up good complete doors for around $100 bucks or less and fenders for about the same. GMCPauls is offering some fenders with some new tooling procedures for around $150 I think, that at least on the website are supposed to be exact replacements. I have'nt heard of anyone actually using them, but it might be worth checking out.

If I fix up another truck I'll try to save aggravation and time by using good used GM parts. They're not as hard to find as I once thought, just run an add here and you can usually get most anything you need.
I will admit some repro parts are usable replacements. But I have been best served by GM in most cases.
Good luck,
J Y
