Question Removing a cab

How long would it take to remove a cab from a truck? If the front clip isn't on it, i just disconncet the steering shaft, the wiring, remove the four bolts that hold it on, and pull it off, right? If the front clip is still on the truck, what is the quickest way to remove it? Also, what size wrenches will i need to do this? I am going to buy a cab that is quite a ways from my house, and i have to pull it off. I will have a friend to help me, but i don't want to spend all day on this. Thanks for the help!

that all depends on the amount of rust on the bolts.
I pulled my front clip and cab off in a hour. and needed 4 guys to lift the cab.

dont forget to unhook the gass line.

9/16 and i think 5/8 were all that was needed. with a couple of 7/16 on the fender to core suport

Don't forget about the e-brake cable, speedo cable, and fuel lines. Also its easier to remove with the doors taken off and fire wall stripped of brake assy, AC etc.

Oh yeah, empty the gas tank, or better yet take it out.

better hope the cab mount bolts wil even break loose, youre damned lucky if you manage to remove the cab without aid of heating up the bolts....

You'll need more than just 2ppl if it has ANYTHING in it. And they will all want beer when they are done working.
Don't let anyone say it won't fit in your bed either. I gurantee it will.

I just got 3/4 of the way done with this today. Started yesterday about 3 in the afternoon. Since then I pulled two cabs off and replaced one. probly 7 hours total. (this wasn't a chevy and it wasn't that old 81-82) I used a skid steer to pick them up and move them around. Had the neibore kid guide them back on. Glad I'm as far as I am. Took a while to get it straight. Figured I was gonna have to live with whatever it ends up looking like, Thats worth an extra effort. dave

Don't forget any grounding cables and the oil sending hose/tube or whatever it is.
