350/700R4 for sale in N. CA

Hey guys,
I have a 70s 4-bolt main 350 block (casting #3970010) for sale that was rebuilt about 8-9 years ago. It hadn't been fired up, and I bought it from a friend of mine thinking it would work for my '85 TPI Trans Am. The mechanic who rebuilt it years ago has since died (airplane accident) and so I wasn't able to talk to him regarding what has been done to it. I tore the heads off it, cleaned them up, pulled the timing cover, pan, etc. and checked over everything with a USFS mechanic friend of mine. There is some slight surface rust on the crank here and there (from sitting), but he told me that was no problem since it was just surface rust, and it wouldn't rust anymore since it'd be oiled up. The cylinder walls are very clean, no rust, pistons look new (no carbon deposits) but we're not sure if they are new or cleaned up with new rings. The block has been bored to .030 over (says so on top of pistons), oil pump looks fine, no gouges or anything. The rod bearing surfaces are clean, no problems there.

I wasn't sure what cam was in it, and since I was planning on putting it in my T/A, I installed a Comp Cams XE256-12 with matching springs. The engine came with an aluminum Edelbrock intake (casting number 2101 on bottom) which I still have that will come with it. The heads (casting #3917293) that came on it were high compression 70s heads with the big valves (motor was going to go in a hotrod, but it wasn't finished). I cleaned up the heads and then figured out I couldn't use them because they didn't have enough accessory holes for all the A/C and smog pump junk that I had on the old 305 that was in my T/A.

In the pictures, the heads that are installed are the 305 heads, all cleaned up with new valve guide seals installed. The installed cam is the Comp Cam and springs, but I also have the unknown cam and springs that were in the motor before. I have a Fel-Pro gasket set for the rest of the installation, as the pan, head and timing chain cover seals have been installed already. The only thing it needs is a new dipstick and dipstick tube, as I modified the original to bend around the 3rd gen manifolds that I had (the 305 dipstick was in a different location). I also have a new (less than 4K mi) water pump off the 305 that will come with it. The manifolds, motor mounts and oil pressure sensor that's on the block in the pictures won't come with it.

The 700R4 transmission is from my T/A. It ran great, no slipping or any problems. I'm not sure how long ago it was rebuilt, but it has a shift kit in it. It's coming out because I'm putting in a T56.

I was using the motor as a replacement for my 305 whose main bearings were going out. But I've decided to do a LS1/T56 swap since I've found a good deal on the parts I'll need and since it's something I've always wanted to do, so I won't be needing the 350.

If you're looking for a rebuilt 350 with two sets of heads and a great running 700R4, this is it. Asking $950 obo for the 350/700R4 combo. If you have any questions, let me know. Located in Mt. Shasta, N. CA.

Edit: I don't have any pictures of the 700R4 because it's still in the T/A. I can get pictures upon request.

Are you referring to the extra nickel and tin alloy added to the 010 and 020 blocks?

Ya think! Those blocks go for GOOD money where I am. Espeically if you are building a "REAL" motor! And you can bore them 60 without having to worry about overheating as much. Just good stuff!

Get it out of my garage. $700 takes the 700R4, rebuilt 350, dying 305, heads, cams, starter, H20 pump, and other parts.

I'm thinking about this, but I don't know if I need an engine yet. I will fire up my 305 in the truck and see what's up. I will post back.
