It's a Pontiac engine (IIRC) so if you're thinking about swapping it into your truck you'll need an adapter for the trans.
Came in Firebirds, and (I think Tempests) GMs answer to the European sports cars OHC engines, sorry, other than that I don't know anything else about it

the heads had a tendancy to warp and crack under heavy usage. they were built for the LaMans sort of like a preppie poormans GTO

wow, someone interested in that thing. They have some advantages. One being that you can turn them into a 292. The other being that they seem to flow better. I have no hard evidence of this. I would like some. Unfortunatly they use a timing belt, not gears, so they do have some problems there. The intakes and what not interchange between them, but i dont think it would be worth it, unless thats exactly what you want.

A friend had one in a Firebird that he bought new and kept forever. He said the motor was junk and ultimately swapped it to a non overhead cam I6 - a 250 I think and it was in the car until he wore it out totally and sent it to the scrap yard.

He is a fellow who has had some "different cars". In addition to the OHC I6 Firebird, he has had a Porsche 914 (you know the non-Porsche, Porsche) and 2 old MB diesels. He has not had really good luck. The Porsche looked pretty good but turned out to be too rusty underneath to justify repair (esp since he couldn't do it himself). The first MB got a bit wrecked when he hit a deer. The most recent MB has had quite a bit of work and doesn't look too bad but still needs more work - expensive when you have to hire it done.

215 horses, 10.25 comp, ratio, price a camshaft before you put any money into it, then you will probably run the other way. Same problem with the Hurricane OHC that Kaiser used in their military pickups-parts availability sucks.

uhh...they're kickass motors? IIRC, the cams go flat on them, and it also has some oiling issues keeping the valvetrain lubed up, but aside from that, they're just as good as the OHV motors. there's a black tempest sprint about 30 minutes south, in rust-free but faded condition. It still has the OHV badges on it. Very cool.

Is that a Q-Jet on a stock manifold?!

I've heard of the Pontiac 250 mentioned on
www.inliners.org
but I've never seen one, myself.
