Blazer tank question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm wanting to install a Blazer tank in my 69 GMC LWB. I found one but it's listed as for a diesel.
Would there be any tank difference between gas and diesel?
Will all Blazer tanks fit these 67-72 trucks?

Maybe I should have asked this on the Blazer side. I assumed that several of the members had installed Blazer tanks.
Any thoughts on whether a deisel tank would be different?

Did GM even offer a diesel on the 67-72 trucks

Many people here have swapped blazer style tanks into their pickups with great success

If it's for a blazer with a diesel, it would have to be from the mid 80's. You might make it work, but it's not a very good fit.

Thats not a 67-72 tank. If you go to most any parts dealer they will have a steel tank for about 250? They are 21 Gallons. Here's a pic of mine.

I bought a steel replacement tank for a 86 (31 gallon) for around 100 bucks from Raybucks. They have the sending units and straps for mounting.

Couple of question for you on the tank install

1. Where do you mount your spare? In the bed?
2. Where do you route the fill neck? Inside the wheel well, or cut a new door in side of bed?

What Mudder failed to indicate is that his 67 is on a 73-up frame. So that 31 gallon tank is for a later model Blazer and the price can't be compared to the 21 gallon 69-72 Blazer model.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I think

Nice job on that tank install. You have me thinking about an external Fuel Pump/Filter now

CPNE is correct (again) (Rolleyes) LOL. I think the 77 chassis is wider than a 67-72 frame. I do believe that raybucks has the metal replacement tanks for the 72 Blazers (21 gallon). I wish someone with the books could see what the width differences are in the 2 frames.

Yea, that 31 gal. tank's gonna fit us guys with 67-72 trucks...huh...LOL I"m kidding so don't get too upset. Hey...Guys support the board vendors and get your blazer 21 gal tank that "WILL" fit a 67-72 frame from one of the supporting vendors,,,,JMHO.

I'll buy mine from Les at GMC Pauls.

LOL I wasnt telling you to buy a 31 gallon tank I was telling you what I paid for one.

I really believe most of the size difference in a 21 and a 31 gallon is depth. Having a 31 gallon is nice.

How about a 73+ surburban tank in a 72 lwb frame? I've been thinking about doing this for quite a while but, as usual

, I haven't found one of those "roundtoits"!
I've got the tank, with the complete rear section of the burb frame. I'll measure it and post it here later.
Anybody know what the 72 frame width is?
I'd measure mine but it sitting in a swamp right now. I'll probably get stuck as soon as I try to move it unless it freezes!

a thing i have a question about is.....does the flange of the blazer tank rest inside the frame rails or underneath? the only way i could see it fitting is underneath but like that i would think if a strap would let go things could get interesting when it started skidding on the ground sparking.

I've got a LWB and it measures 27 3/8 between frame rails.

Here's the 'burb frame section and tank I have;

Fuel fill on the left side, correct? (Been a loonng time since I cut this out!).

If it's left side fill then it measures 27-3/8 in. from the inside edge of the frame c channel to the inside edge of the opposite side. That's behind the tank.
In front of the tank it measures 27-5/8 in.

Top view;

Can anybody tell me the capacity on this tank? Guesses maybe?
