Spray in sound deadener/undercoating?? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

When I finish doing the rot repair on the 72' Burb, I wanted to spray undercoating on the inside of the rear wheeltubs, underside of floorpans and rockers and also inside the truck on the 1/4 panels. Mainly I wanted to do this to try and prevent or at least slow down the rust from happening again but I also want to loose some of the tinny work van sound on the inside. My main concern is odor. Has anyone used undercoating on the inside of their truck and experienced any foul odors on a hot summer day from it? Anyone have a product they used that they could reccommend? Does the spray in Rhino Lining stuff do anything?

I dont remember the brand but i picked it up at the Dupont store. Its a spray on undercoating and doesnt have any smell at all after it dries. I sprayed the underside of my cab and fenderwells with it and it looks pretty good. It looks like black sanpaper when it sets. Its not nearly as thick as lineX but i am just using it for rust prevention. I dont know that it would make for very good insolation.

Napa Auto parts stores carry the Spray-On undercoating in a rattle can.

I used the 3M rattle can spray on undercoating and am real happy with the results. I don't think I would use it inside the cab.

i would use roll on bedliner type stuff inside im going to use it on my cab floor and my brother coated the whole inside of his jeep with it. so when he sinks it in the mud it wont hurt anything. stuff doesnt have any weird smell or anything like that. im using it more for soundproofing than anything else

I'm considering having the floors sprayed with Line-X once I have my rot repaired. Has anyone done this?

I'm thinking both sides of the floor, top and bottom...

I plan on coating the back side od the fenders, doors, and bed sides with POR15, the cab floor will get some too, then probably some undercoating on top of that.

I did a lot of research looking for a product to reduce noise, vibration and heat. Looked at everything from Dynomat to brown bread to Fat Mat to foil insulation at Home Depot. I have not used this product myself but have heard very good things from some that have. It's called Lizard Skin and the website is here. It's not cheap but a lot less than Dynomat (which does not have a heat barrier unless you step up to the Dynomat Xtreme and put the Xtremeliner over that). But it does reduce noise/vibration and is a heat barrier. And it weighs a ton less than all those other products.

I used a product called Hippo roll in bed liner on the back wall, floor and firewall inside my cab mainly for rust protction. The torch red paint was too expensive to use under the carpet. This stuff is really thick and sticks really good it should help a bit with the sound. Before I coated the back wall it was really tinny sounding now it alot more solid. If you get this stuff on your hangs it does not come off I got a bit on my eblow 3 weeks ago and it's still stuck.
