I have one of the original versions of the ignitor on my 62 Chev 235. It's been on a few years and I've never had a problem.

How did you install it? What's involved?

The original Pertronix Ignitor can melt if the key is left on for a long time without the engine running. If you go Pertronix, be sure to only use the Ignitor II with a coil that matches the Ignitor II's ohm needs, whether the Flamethrower II or another brand coil with the same characteristics. The Ignitor II has the advantage over the original Ignitor by having a circuit that senses when the ignition key is left on to prevent the Ignitor II from melting. It's written about on Pertronix's site.

Pretty good article. The summit cap they used is an interesting option for 69-74 dizzys. It's only draw back would be the non-stock wires issue. 67-72 users with Rams Horn manifolds would probably be restricted to using 75-6 Vette wires. Less chance of finding them at a parts store. But then how often would they need wires that quick? Could carry used HEI wires for emergencies.
I'll be installing the Ignitor II and Flamethrower II on my K10's 350 that I'm rebuilding. I'm considering adding Pertronix's Second Strike box, but my budget should stop me from taking that step until later this year.

Hey guys that article is just what I've been looking for to give me the distributer cap for using HEI wires on my pertronix system on my vette. Now all I need is some wamer weather to work in. Garage is not heated yet.
4x4 poet thanks for the help on thread linking. I think I've got it down. Vettevet-old but still learning

I have the IgnitorII/Flamethrower II stuff on my shelf waiting for my 292 to get done breaking in. I have a NOS Accell L6 single-points distributer to mount it on. Had heard that the Ignitor II required an ignition-on 12 volt source, preferably 10 or 12 gauge wire, because the yellow wire (to the coil)set-up drops to 7 volts once it heats up. The article makes it sound optional.

i've been running a Igniter I with a stock 12v coil for 2 years .. zero problems ... if you set the key at acc instead of ON you'll have no problems ... One thing i have heard about the first igniter is that is takes a few seconds to charge once you click it to "ON" ... i leave it there for about 3 seconds and then turn the engine over...

Skokie, Great article. I found swapping the unit in easier than installing points. Since my 62 is a restored vehicle I liked the idea of it being pretty much concealed. There is an extra wire coming out of the dist. but I placed both wires in black shrink tube to make it less obvious. Looks like the I2 is even better. Maybe I'll upgrade this summer.

JIMs70GMC, that is a great product of which I had yet to hear. I didn't know M&H made ignition upgrade stuff. Good education on coils, too. Thanks.
