The pinion & housing must be removed from the pumpkin to replace the pinion seal, the seal comes out from the inside instead of the outside. Sometimes the pinion flange won't come off without some hammering to get it to move, it may even take a puller to get it off. Once in a while you get lucky & it slides right off. Make sure the yoke's sealing surface does not have a bad groove worn in it.

Okay, gonna give it a try, we'll see what happens.
Well, first attempt failed, so my daughter put it on a link to one of her sites... http://www.lionking.org/~west/eaton.jpg

Lol, a third member on a lionking site!
BTW, is that a pic of an Eaton with a Detroit Locker? Or just an open diff?

I may be losing my memory, but I don't remember having to pull the pinion and housing to replace the pinion seal on an Eaton. I've done two of them and I don't remember that. I know I did them both in the truck.....hmmmmm
