Idle help - When AC is on truck dies
Looking for a little help.
I have my 350 with automatic idleing just right. When I turn the AC on, it drops about 200 and many times the truck dies. I hear that there was/is an original or after market option to solve the problem. Something to do with with either electric or vacuum signal to the carburetor that rasies the idle when the AC is on. I am currently runing a Holley 600. Will replace it to solve the problem. I don;t really want to idle it fast to keep it runnig when the AC is on. Anyone heard of the problem and how to solve it.

You need an idle compensator selenoid, wired to the hot on the ac compressor clutch it'll kick up the idle when the compressor is engaged.
selenoid

Quadrajets had a fast idle solenoid. Bracket mounted to the front of the carburetor. Power came from the compressor clutch circuit. When the compressor clutch kicked in, the solenoid pushed the throttle open a little to compensate for the extra load. You'd have to fabricate a bracket to put one on a Holley, but it should solve your problem.

Be a good idea to replace the Holley with a Q-jet or Edelbrock anyway. My history with the Holley 600 is not a good one.
