Big Block Needed

I am looking for a rebuildable 396/402. Either entire engine or just bare block. I want to get a start on a big block project for my truck. My truck is not stock so any year engine will work. Send me a PM, email to dave3156@yahoo.com or post it here. I will tear down the engine so if it has sat awhile or is not complete thats ok. I have been looking for some time. I am located close to St. Louis and would like to find something at least within 300 miles or so of St. Louis so I can drive to pick it up. Thanks

Thanks for the responses. I really want a builder or project engine, thats why even a bare block will work. MAC67 your really tempting me with a running 402 for $800 though. Send me Mike's email. Cities I would consider traveling to outside of St. Louis would be Louisville, Kansas City, Memphis, Chicago or anywhere in between. JDL email sent.

Why are they always 1000 miles from here! Thats what I am looking for. The shipping would cost as much as the part though. Anybody traveling between St. Louis and N. Texas soon?

Before you spen $800 on a builder, you might consider this 454 I have for sale:

Just rebuilt (by E.T. Performance in Garland, TX)

Short block:
'73 2-bolt 454 bored .030 over. Everything balanced. Rods resized. Crank turned. New factory cast pistons (8.5-1). Clevite bearings. Mellings HV oil pump. Cloyes Tru-Roller chain and gears. New oil pan.
Degreed Comp Cams 262H-11 hydraulic cam 218/226 dur and lift of .505/.515...nothing radical...damn good street cam. Comp hydraulic lifters.

Heads:
'73 big oval port 781's rebuilt with new valves (stock size) Comp springs, retainers, locks, Comp steel Magnum roller rockers, Comp rocker studs and Comp 7/16" pushrods.
Intake is a Performer Plus aluminum intake.
New waterpump. Chrome timing cover. Accel Hei. Everything is new.
Engine was broken in on dyno (379hp/460lbft), and I have about 100 miles on it getting the truck and transmission dialed in.
It runs very strong and has just a slight "lope" to it at idle...enough to let the other guys know "it ain't stock" .
Engine is currently in the truck, so you can hear it run if you like.
The carb is available separately, as well as the ceramic coated headers.
No accessories like alt, ac, or brackets included...just the engine.
$1700 firm

Very, very nice engine. I can't imagine why you are taking it out! You spent alot of time and effort on it, I can tell. I'm giving it some thought. It's a great price and about the build I wanted to do. The logistics are a pain, again its about 1000 miles away! Thanks for the response.

I have a 1970 402. I pulled the heads to take a look. no rust, no broken parts. I never ran the truck but did turn it over. $500 and I could get it to 30 miles north of Des Moines Iowa. I also have a 71 402 that I will be pulling this spring. Approx 100,000 miles on that engine(60,000 put on by me).
