tight ujoint

Bad news - Drive shaft fell out.
Good news - doesnt appear to be damaged.
I got a new rear u joint and installed it. But it appears to be really tight when I put it back on. Ive taken it off and done it again but cant seem to get it on to where it just flops around.
Any iders or suggestions from before?

Yup.make sure one of the needle bearings isn't laying in the bottom of the cap.Did that myself recently,being in a hurry doesn't pay off for me

any little dent/ding will put the shaft out of balance....you might try seating the caps against the retainer rings (just thump the ends of the shaft with a lead hammer).....not on the tube tho!

Is it the type of u-joint that the snap ring goes in a groove on the outside rather than the inside? If there isnt a needlebearing trapped in there some where & if it is the type that the snap ring goes in a groove on the outside then it may just be a tight fit. You can lightly sand the back of the cap that butts up against the snapring to increase clearance.

Could be the yoke is bent slightly,I hope not,but as you said it fell out.

tight

The bearing cups are pressed too far in. Tap (hard) on the bearing retainer near where it's welded to the tube. (not the tube like stated earlier). Make sure you hammer at the correct indexing location. You want the bearing cups to be pushed back out a few thousandths. Not the cups that are in the differential yoke. The other pair.

It was a needle bearing issue. I replaced the whole unit and now she's running like she was new! Thanks for the response!
