you may want to expand your search to include the 472. I have one from 68 & according to another website it has close to the same power. something like 525 lbft of torque @ 2800 RPM.

Only 71 and later have low enough compression to run well on pump gas!
The gas formulas really bite compared to just 12 years ago. I tried running a 69 472 and had to cut the timing in half to run even high test fuel with out spark knocking.

hell, even the 425 is a beast and npretty easy to find.
I know where there is a 472, but it is in a car with no hood on it.

My bother loved his 425 Caddy and it was great on gas mileage. Darn good choice!

i can get a 425 easily the problem is i got the itch for a 500. a 472 would be ok. i found a couple at the yard bu they were in front wheel drives. what does it take to get the engine out of there? any harder than a rear wheel drive??

Actually getting the engine from a front wheel drive one is better, becasue you will need the oil pan from one anyway if you are putting it in a truck. Im my area there are usually at least 15 of them in every junkyard I go in. I would wait until its dry for a while and they put new cars out though, unless you can find one in a car that still has the hood on it. lol

Unless I'm mistaken you want the front drive oil pan anyway.

For most applications you want that rear sump Eldo pan! It's not the same as taking one from a rear drive. I saw your post on cowboy7 board. -I'm a bonafide expert on removing/installing in Eldo's/Toro's. Not usually one to brag, -if you don't have enough info yet, -email me and I'll get real specific. It's no big deal, -just different. smbker@cox.net
