Can I use the same clutch pivot bar 6 to 8cy

I am looking at keeping my 3speed manual and dropping in a small block. Can I use the same clutch pivot rod? Will it bolt from my 6cy to my 8 with no problems???

Nope - but if you're handy, anything can be modified. Start scouring wrecking yards. Does your V8 block have the drilled and tapped boss for the Z bar? If not, you need the offset adapter plate. Dubie took some nice pics of his conversion. Send him an IM. He'll respond when he gets time, his wife just got out of the hospital.

I thought they were the same. the I6 has a funky shaped bracket to go from the block to the Z bar whereas the V8 has the Z bar- pivot mounted right to the block.

No, the z- bars are different. The rod between the pedal and the z-bar is different too.

If the bolt boss isn't threaded on the V8, I've drilled them and tapped threads into the block before. There is a flat spot where the hole should be. Just center punch it and drill the hole.

That's the V8 block side ball stud setup for the z-bar. It's used when you put your engine in the correct (factory ) position.

zbar?

Do I need one off a truck or any car V8? This isn't clearing things up(muddy).

TTT for ya, and I'm confused as well.

I understand that the V8 and I6 z-bar and rod are different, since I've seen reliable folks say so. But not knowing any better at the time, I used the stock setup when we changed I6 to smallblock (factory position). I had to move the frame bracket for the z-bar, mount the ball in the side of the block, and bend the rod slightly, but everything seems to work fine.

Does anyone have pics of the different setups (I6 vs. V8 z-bar and pedal rod), or knowledge of why they are different? Is there some change in the mechanical advantage that would alter the travel or the force required?

Thanks...SSOW

I just did this when I swapped my 350 over to an inline. It was a step in the right direction.

The pedal to z bar rod is straight on an inline engine and offset for the V8 engine. It's quite noticeable when you lay them next to each other, several inch offset.

Not an expert, but when I pulled the I-6 out of the '72 to swap in a V-8, I re-used the existing clutch Z-bar, bracktes, and pivot stud. Never had any problems with the clutch.

to 1969 K10

Where did you mount your motor? In the existing holes for the 6cy or did you move the stands?
