You guys won't beleive this, someone rearended my truck.............

It happened at like 11AM this morning. I was a asleep and heard what I thought was a gunshot but I heard tires squeal and I knew it was something else. My mom and sister started screaming that someone hit my truck. I friggin jumped out of the bed and put my jeans and a tshirt on and went outside and looked, and it wasn't as bad as i expected. The rear bumper on my truck was a step bumper from a '80s FURD, and was twisted all to hell. The drivers bedside didn't get any real damage, but the driver side door doesn't close very easy now. Thats not good. That means it pushed the whole damn body of the truck forward. The bedside is really close to the cab. I just hope like hell that the frame isn't bent, even though it's the rear end anyway. The car that hit my truck was a brand new Camaro that this girl had just got two days ago. She said she was going to work and she looked off to the other side and didn't see my truck in front of her. That's just bull $hit. And she had to have been hauling ass, because she pushed my truck forward at least 10 feet. I know because I could see where the tires skidded. The point of impact was the drivers side of the bumper and the passenger side of her car was toast, but it was driveable. Yeah I feel sorry for her but my truck is gonna need a lot of work now and I can bet that her damn insurance company isn't gonna do squat because my truck is so old and it looks like crap. We did take pics of it and I will post 'em as soon as they are developed. The stupid thing is that it was parked less than a foot from the curb!!!!!! Sorry about the rant but dammit i'm so pissed off right now.

Sorry to hear the news. How in the heck does someone miss a 3/4 ton truck, especially ours? Hope things work out and it's not your frame. Good Luck.

i hate to be the bearrer of bad news but, Yep, they'll proably try to total it out. They did mine. I got 2800 for mine and i bought it back for 400 and sold it for 550.

what's the specs? get a second opinion and Don't let them down play the truck. Get a lawer if you have to or at least the advice of one if The Ins. won't help you out.

I'm sure you called the cops and had a report made right? If so, her insurance will have to be contacted Monday for an adjustor to look at it. He may even write you a check right there. From what you said about the door, I'd be willing to bet the truck frame is pushed forward on the side that took the hit. We goota have pics now!

If they "total" it, you can probably buy it back from them for peanuts. If you don't want to go that route just stand firm. It's your truck, they were at fault.

The truck is driveable, it's not totaled. I was really worried because I thought the parking pawl on the transmission had been broken because it was pushed so far. And you bet I called the cops. Both her car and my truck had insurance, the cop made a report and stuff. As soon as I get the old bumper bolted back on we're gonna take it to a bodyshop hopefully next week and get an estimate on how much it would cost to get all the damage fixed and see if the frame is bent or pushed forward. The impact was so damn hard that it even knocked the battery loose from the battery tray. I had it bolted down but both the bolts on the tray pulled out and the battery fell down by the frame and it almost ripped the fuseable link off of the passenger fender.

I NEVER park on the street. There is this guy on my street who parks his Boxter in front of his house and a few weeks ago i noticed that it was exactly how you descibed your truck. It had been hit in the rear on the driver side and had been pushed forward several feet. Im sure the guy was POed but we all have rear driveways where i live and im sure when he gets a new car thats where it will be parked from now on.
Im not saying its your fault but there are a TON of idiot drivers out there and if i learned one thing from riding motorcycles its that you have to imagine the dumbest thing another driver could possibly do and always count on that happening or it could cost you your life for someone elses mistake.

Your story is more common than you may think. IMO parking your vehicle on the street isnt a matter of WILL it get hit but more of a question of WHEN?

Look at the bright side, maybe the insurance will give you a check and let you by the truck back. It might pay for more than the fix and you could get some new stuff for it.

DON"T do anything to that truck until the adjustor(s) see it!! Your own insurance is the only friend you have right now--let them fight it for you. Don't sign anything until you're completely satisfied! Don't accept any promises from anyone. Take pictures!

Smitty, the only thing we've done is drive it to make sure the tranny is OK, that's it. I haven't taken anything off or put anything on the truck.

Hey thanks Randy, I'd take it if I was closer.

Anyway, I got down on a creeper and checked it out and the frame looks OK. It's just the bumper, some damage to the bedside, and the door that are the biggest problems right now. I also forgot to add that the upper trim from the bed flew off, its kinda bent but I fixed it. I left it off just the way it was. We took pics of everything that's screwed up. Took one of the twisted bumper, one of the bedside, and one of the door and fender.

Well the one good thing about a truck is,no matter what's wrong with it,you can change it.
Sucks that it got hit,she was prolly blinded by that glittering CD she was trying to get in the CDplayer or something, cause you don't "Not See" a 3/4 ton truck of any year.

I had someone hit my Nova back in 95,and I drove it 50 miles to teh insurance office, and they had thier adjuster look, and inspect it.It was totaled, and they told me the payoff was 715 Dollars For a 72 Nova with a brand new 350,4 speed?!?!
Anyway,it needed quarters, and that's where it was hit in the side back quater.I took the money, and walked out to see my car being pulled off by thier wrecker.
I had to walk across town and get the check cashed, cause she wouldn't just void it and write a new one less the 250 to buy it back, and then pay her $250 to get my car back.
Anyways the episode bought new quarters, and paint, and some nice odds and ends.I hope it turns out well for ya.

I was in an accident that was not my fault (the car was totaled), we had just bought an older car that was in excelent shape 2 days before, the other insurance co. said it was worth 1/2 of what we had just paid for it, I said no way...replace it with same milage, condition and options or pay my price. They grunted and groaned and then paid. Don't let them try to dictate to you, it wasn't your fault.

Well here's an update:

The truck is fine, frame isn't bent/pushed forward and the tranny is OK, shifts great like it always did. I just put the old original step bumper back on today, but I need to buy some more diamond plate and get the bottom step welded back on. I figured it was better than driving around without a bumper anyway. I also had to take the drivers side door off and adjust the hinges. Door closes OK, but still feels like it's hung up.

Now for the legal crap:

While I was at school this morning, an insurance adjustor came to look at the truck. They said that we won't get much money because the truck is too old. If they don't pay as much as my Dad wants it'll be time for a lawyer and we're gonna kick some a$$.

That's the truth! Last year one of my tenants drove a rented ChevyTrailblazer right through the living room of one of my duplexes.

FYI, a Trailblazer fits nicely in an average size living room, for you guys with any new garage ideas.
