my project truck is rotted (frame) :whine:

my 3/4 ton plow/go to the dump and horse around truck is all done. the frame is rotted just in one special spot in front of the front mount for each rear leaf spring. I really should have seen this when I bought the truck, but... that will teach me to do my homework I guess. No wonder the guy who sold it to me said he'd never get around to putting an engine in it. Here's some pics, what do you guys think? I am figuring I will have to part it out, maybe buy something newer to plow with for next year. I don't know. Thanks for your comments.

before you go assuming its junk, hit it with a wire brush and knock all the undercoating off. you may find that its more solid than you think. from the looks of it the rear of the spring hangers have been cut out, not a huge deal, and makes it easier for mud/dirt/whatever else to drain from that area, as well as making removal of the springs easier. i have seen several trucks where they'll get packed with mud, and never cleaned out, eventually rusts the bottom of the hanger off, which is a big problem. the 2wd frame that came out from under my 86 looked very much the same way, although under further inspection, all it really needed was the old undercoating scraped off.

From the outside, looking in, you can see the rot. I am not too sure, and I am not very good at welding....

ok, so you definitely need an inner spring hanger brace for the front. find one at the boneyard, knock the rivets out, knock the rivets out of yours, and bolt the new one in place. its not that hard, i did my entire frame on my 86 this way. you cant tighten up a rivet, but you can tighten up a bolt.
