A/C Refill Kits..can't remember the manufacturer's name
Hey folks,
I was watching a TV show the other day called Two Guys Garage, and they had an A/C retrofit kit, to convert from R12 to 134a. (I think it was a retrofit kit, maybe it was a refill kit....I'm losing my mind now!!) I think it was made by Castrol, but am not sure. Has anyone seen this episode (on a couple days ago) or know of the kit I'm talking about? (It came in a little box, supposedly with all the hoses/fittings, O-rings, cans of stuff, etc.)

I don't remember the name of the kit either, but I saw one at Wal-Mart the other day, like 3 cans of 134a, can tap, hose, and i think some oil and o-rings along with 134a fittings......too bad they had no vacuum pump in the little $30? kit.

The Wal-Mart kit is made by Interdynamics.

I have seen the kits (castrol type) in advance autoparts stores or in autozone. I've never used one, but a buddy did on his mustang and it worked great.

The one on two guys garage was made by Castrol. I used the one made by Interdynamics. It does work but it is sort of hard to get things just right without using gages. Even though most of my R-12 was gone I used a venturi vacuum device (hook compressed air to it and it draws a vacuum down to around 29", I got mine from harbor freight for $12) to draw the system into a deep vacuum to remove the remaining R-12 and potentially any moisture in the system. Then I broke the vacuum using the oil supplied in the kit(hooked the oil can to the fitting) without the compressor running. Then chased it with R-134 until the vacuum was gone. Then I started the compressor and charge utilizing the compressor suction to draw the 134 into the system.

Wow!!! I gotta find my harbor freight catalog and order one of those vacuum pumps, sounds like a great deal on one. Hmmmmmm.......maybe I should just use the online catalog....I really need to learn to use the net to it's potential....lol
