Cab Floor Hump

Is there a way to determine if you have a high or low hump?

If the floor is almost flat in the middle, you have a low hump.

It would be easy for me to do, it all depends on your skill level. (the reason I say this is because I've met people that can't gap a spark plug) If you can cut and weld metal then it would be a piece of cake.

Not trying to hijack here but....Would a '72 3/4 ton 2wd with a 402/T400 combo have a low hump or high? What had 'em and what didn't?

That should have been a high hump, I'm pretty sure that all big block trucks had high humps.

No need to weld if going from low to high hump.

You cold probably just cut and bolt the high hump on, you just wouldn't have the lip around the hole that the hump sits in. I have a high hump truck in my back yard (with two other trucks), ya want pics? (I have a digicam)

This is what I'm up to....I found a '72 3/4 ton 2wd with a big block and I'm thinkin' about buying it and taking out the big block and trans and putting it into my '72 which was originally a 1/2 ton 2wd with a 350/T350. What I'm wondering is if I will need to make my current pickup a high-hump cab so that it will fit or not. What would be right? How would a '72 1/2 ton 2wd with a 402/T400 come from the factory? High or low?

Even though all factory big block auto trucks were high hump, it will fit under a low hump too.

When I converted my 70 from 6 cylinder 3 speed to 454, turbo 400, it all fit under the low hump without problems. Initially, it was snug in some areas, but when I replaced the old original cab mounts with new ones, it raised the cab near and inch, then it all cleared by a mile.

Cut, drill, bolt.

BTW... I'm ASSuming the stock high hump uses body bolts. So does that mean the cab floor has welded nuts to back up the bolts? Or is it just sheetmetal threaded? Or??

The floor has nuts welded underneath and uses body bolts.

They are very easy to remove and install in the trucks that originally came with it. If I was going to install one on a low-hump truck, I'd set it in place, mark the holes with a sharpie marker and drill, put bolts through the drilled holes with a nut on the other side, crawl under the truck and weld them in place. It really shouldn't be too hard at all if you have a welder. A cheap wire feed flux-core welder would do the job.
