best way to ship a transmission? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Anyone have any expecience on shipping transmissions or motors? I need some help finding a freight company. Can you reccomend a company that works out of Dallas? Phone numbers?

I once received a tranny in a big rubbermaid container cushioned by bed pillows. The sender was trying to stay under a FedEx weight threshold - thus the packaging. The tranny was damaged in the process (corner of bellhousing broken off). Palleted is by far the best way to go.

Depends on how far you are shipping. Forward Air is affordable and has many size containers that you can ship in.Customer can simply pick up at the airport. Good luck!

Yeah I realize that you can ship it on a pallet with a trucking company, I was wanting to know of a company someone has already used around here and a phone number.

where are you shipping to and can the customer pick it up at the terminal? these two things will greatly affect the price. the delivering terminal makes most of the money so this where you will save if the person you are shipping to can pick it up.
i work for old dominion freight lines so i will be alittle biased as who to use. i see this kind of stuff going across the dock all day. we do a pretty good job of getting this kind of thing shipped without damage. your best bet is to call as many freight companies as you can because prices will vart alot. good luck.

Go to www.freightquote.com

follow the process and it will automatically give you all the rates for the local truck companies INCLUDING FedEx and UPS. It's great. You know how much it's gonna cost to ship big items and they do all the leg work for you. Customer Service has been really good too. The guy that has helped me several times is named Chris Hansen but I'm sure anybody can help you. FWIW: I've shipped a set of BBC heads to Wisconsin, a 12 bolt to Oklahoma, and am getting ready to ship a 402 BBC to Michigan. No problems with the service so far.
