i think if you move your engine mounts back, you might need a differnet transmission crosmember, then im not sure how you do the front, maybe unbolt the 4wd stuff, leafs and everything and take the 6 big bolts off the crossmember of a 2wd and bolt it in. you just take out the transfer case. you will need somebody like fast to reply to this. good luck, Ben

Depends on your tranny, if you have an auto- you gotta get a 2wd tranny. If it's a manual- I don't know.
I think the 2wd had coil rears and sit a few inches lower than the leaf 4x4's. If you have an NP205 T- case you can sell it to defray some other costs. Good Luck! |

i did it about 6 years ago, but i used a 74-81 z28 front subframe. hacked the frame off at the firewall and grafted the subframe on.
i chose this conversion because it gave me a shorter turning radius and got the slammed look with no other modifications. the only tough part was getting the radiator support mounted. i actually didn't cut the subframe, i sliced part of it along the sides and slide it along the outside of the frame and used the crossmember that came with the subframe then welded. it was a big job, but it rides great, and turns on a dime. oh yea, i used the z28 rearend and springs too. i had to move the spring perches, and add a leaf to get the right ride height. that way i have the same bolt pattern all around. the rearend is narrower so i had to use deep dish reverse wheels to compensate. i lucked up and found a z28 rearend with disc brakes so it also stops real good. i wouldn't suggest this conversion to the faint of heart, it was a lot of work, but i have/had no use for a 4x4, and i bought the blazer real cheap (100) so i had little to lose. however you decide, good luck...........

Thanks for the info. I don't think i would want to cut the frame ip too much but that's just my preference.

I have often thought of this. (Even though I don't have a Blazer). I would think you could get your self a coil sprung 2x4 truck chassis and swich the arms over with that rearend, and bolt the front cross member in.

I'm in the middle of this conversion myself. The only difference is that I notched my crossmember to get another 1.5" of drop without affecting ride quallity. The crossmember from a 2wd will bolt up to a couple of holes but you'll have to drill out a couple and add a couple of more. It's fairly obvious, once you get the crossmember in place, as to which one's match. As far as engine mounts, it's up to you where you want them. I'm going to try and move my 454 foward to give my HEI and valve covers a little more room. You'll have to get a driveshaft to match your tranny to diff. distance. If your running an auto, you'll have to have your tailcone coverted to 2wd or get a tranny from a 2wd truck/car/whatever (that's what I did). I haven't hooked up my brake lines yet so I don't know if I can make my solid lines work. I did get new 2wd flex hoses ($25 a peice!). An entire article could be written on the subject. If you have any questions, ask and I'll try to answer.
