Hey everyone,

Here is a pic of my new truck! I just bought it today. It is a 1972 Cheyenne Super 4x4. It is a super clean truck with 69,685 original miles! It needs a few odds and ends in the interior like a seat cover and a carpet, aside from that it is a incredibly clean original truck. I have a question about it????????

The guy I purchased it from says that it is all original with the original lift???. It has a block on the rear end about 4 inches however the front has no block to lift it it is just the leaf springs. I am not a 4x4 guy but I would love to know if gm ever did such a thing from factory? What I would like to do is set it back to a stock stance and put a set of 31 inch rubber on it instead of the 33 inch set it is sporting. Can anyone give me an idea of what has to be done?

It is pretty clear that removing the rear block would be an easy way to get rid of the extra lift in the rear but I dont know what to do about the front end as it has no lift block there.

Here is a few more pics of the lift. Sorry I didn't have time to wash it before the pics. I am finding that the truck really rides rough! I think it is from the extra leafs added to the front end.

Very nice truck, it looks like someone has installed a 4" lift but its definatlly not factory. If you want to lower the truck you might want to go with a 2.5" Skyjacker softride, or trade out your front springs for a good set of stock springs and just remove the rear block.

But, if you want to go back to stock, and If they interchange, I've got a stock height 80 3/4 ton 4x4, I'll trade you springs if you want =) I'm about 3 hrs north of you, just East of Edmonton

My wife is pretty happy. Only because I have finally found something to be happy with. In other words the chase is over. I have had it officially for a grand total 12 hours. In that time I have had 2 guys ask me if I wanted to sell it and a few nice complements. Makes me think I have done the right thing. Besides I have lost a pile of money on the new trucks I have owned in the recent past.

You had better get used to it, Ive had guys roll down windows beside me and ask if I would sell. Ive been driving mine for 4 years since I finished it, and I don't think a day has gone by that there hasn't been a "thumbs-up" or some other comment.

Its a great feeling, sure makes my day!

Sweet Truck~!
Stock springs on the front are the "reverse" kind. There should be tons of them around. Put a message on the 4x4 board. I just had my factory springs powdercoated satin black and am running 73 Edelbrock IAS Shocks.b Pricey but worth EVERY penny. Rides like an Escallade!!!!!!! Unreal compared to the 4" Skyjacker Lift I spent a ton of $$ on, tried 3 different shock set ups, and NEVER liked the ride. Check out this post I started when I first got my truck and add your truck.

Ditch the lift and find some OE wheels and hubcaps. Everybody has a lift and ralleys. Be different!

Can't see the axles. Typically with a 4-inch lift, new or modified axels are required, especially up front. If you go back stock, you may also be looking for stock axles. Another vote for leaving it as is. I like it. It does look like a lot of air in those tires though. Maybe letting out a few pounds would soften things up bit.

Just saw where you have a 8-track in there. Just dumped a boat-load of 8-tracks a couple of weeks ago. Lots of late '60s and '70s stuff. You would have loved it...

My bad. I was thinking drivelines. I raised a '75 Power Wagon about 3 1/2 - 4 inches and the front driveline was streached to the point to where it was barley in the spindle/yoke whatever. If I hadn't of put in a longer one, any rough terrain could have popped it out. The back one was streched also but not as bad as I had a long bed (longer drive line, less of an angle increase). I was just thinking that maybe a short bed truck might have streched the rear driveline out also. Maybe Chevy's have a longer yoke/spindle (more slack) than the ol' Dodge and it's not an issue. Just recalling a past experience that I had...
