Hopefully I got someones attention I smoked the engine harness from the power point nn the firewall to just about all the major components under the hood of the 85 I bypassed all the areas that appeared to be damaged with new wire and could not get alt to charge, changed the engine harness out with a 78 model engine harness and she fired right up alt charged and everything seemed good then it got dark pulled the headlight switch and no headlights or parking lights turn signals and brake lights ok hazzard ok just no headlights and park lights. Now my question is is there a difference in the harness' for basic engine harness from 78 to 85 I had headlights with the cooked harness just no alt working now I am truly in the dark

I would have thought that the headlamps and park lights would be the same as the 85 as the other lights work as they should I checked the body ground strap on back of motor and its making contact battery to body ground is good and battery to engine ground is clean and hooked securely any Ideas ? I am assuming that the switch for headlamps is still ok as I had no issues with other harness. any insight would be gratly appreciated Mike

You might try comparing the harness plugs where they plug into the firewall to make sure they didn't put some of the connectors in different holes.

been looking much more stuff in the 85 harness than 78 darn it wanted to keep it simple
