Truck's Partial VIN # is stamped on the engine's pass side head in the very front by the valve cover, along with factory info.

That partial VIN should match the VIN of the truck on the VIN plate in the driver's side door jam.

There is also a partial VIN stamped on the frame, and I am sure on the transmission too- someone else can help with the location of those.

What redz said and ...

Generally, the part & casting numbers for the individual components (intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, block, etc) should match the vehicle application and should be date coded within a 3 month window prior to the vehicle's build date.

You can identify starters and tranny's and alternators and a whole lot of other stuff also to verify correct numbers matching application. It can get into some fine details if you try to go all the way.

If you have the Protect-O-Plate for the truck you should be able to check the following matches:

o VIN (of course)
o Carburetor Source Code (possibly)
o Engine Number
o Rear Axle Number
o Vehicle Build Month Code
o Transmission Number
