700R4 Flexplate and Possible Rebuild Question
I am going to pull my tranny to replace the flexplate. I don't know for certain that it is cracked, but I think that is the sound I am hearing (the flexplate rubbing on the inside of the bellhousing maybe).
My tranny slips a little and downshifts hard into 1st. My question is if I do find that my flexplate is cracked, should I: a) replace the flexplate only and not rebuild the tranny, or b) rebuild the tranny while I have it out of the truck (no small feat) Also, what flexplate should I get for a stock 305 with 700R4. Summit has their own brand, B&M, and TCI. What about 700R4 rebuild kits from Summit? Is $356 too much?

Rebuild it while you have it out. My tranny rebuilder will build a 700r4 for 5-600 bucks with a mild shift kit and good parts. If you can rebuild it yourself then the summit kit would not be out of line. As far as flexplate, that would be a personal preference. By the way......I like your avatar I used to own one of those cars and will again someday

Cool...well if I could get it rebuilt for $500 or $600, I may not do it myself...I will check around.
I assume you had a Grand National and not the GSX. I had a plain old Regal in high school and came real close to trading it in on a 70 GS 455...wish I had done it.

I was on ebay and found a great sight for ebuild kits for 700-r4 and 200-4r its oregan performence. Rebuild kit with steels and clutch discs for 105.00. On ebay just type 700-r4 and search.
