Question Gas tank question...

Well everyone I have finally gotten around to working on this thing again. Anyways, The tanks have got to be so clogged up on this thing. And I don't have the money to buy new ones right now. So I was wondering what should I do to get these back in decent shape? I mean can you even clean these things out and what about the sending unit? Is that capable of being cleaned of all the sediment and sludge that is in this tank? I have heard about some kind of sock that fits around the pickup on the sending unit. If that is nasty can you buy a new sock or what? Also if anyone has cleaned one out and been successful please tell me what you used to clean it and how you did it...Thanks much...Mike

IMO, our fuel tanks are so cheap that it doesn't pay to do any work to them.

I had an older tank done at a radiator shop. It was put in a nitric acid bath overnight, holes brazed shut, drain plug installed, POR-15 outside, and re-sealed inside. $200 and that was a screamin' deal.

I'd personally just get a new one

But yes, you can replace the sock at the pickup, its only a few bucks at NAPA. As far as cleaning the inside out, I can't see it being an easy task...

Thanks yall, I am gonna drop the tank and see how bad it really is. Another thing is that the little valve the switches between the two tanks. I believe that it is messed up also, I think it is stuck between the two tanks and it is not drawing fuel from only one side...Mike
