Have to Slam Door After Adding Weatherstrip - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Has anyone ever had this problem? I installed the door weatherstrip on the passenger's side and now I have to slam the door for it to close all the way. Not just a normal slam. I have to aggresively throw the door for it to shut all the way.

It will ease up after the new rubber takes it's shape.

Give it a few weeks.

That's normal. Just as Tx Firefighter said. I put the S-10 weatherstripping on mine and I didn't think I could even shut the door but once shut and left sitting a couple of days it's fine.

You may have to re-adjust if it doesn't fix itself. I had to on mine after installing new repro weatherstrips. I waited about 2 weeks and it wasn't getting any better.

All I did was to loosen the hinge to cab bolts on both hinges just a bit, not too much, then shut the door. Open back up and tighten the bolts. That was enough in my case to position the door out a bit.

I never thought of doing that, I haven't installed mine yet but I was worried from reading on this subject before. Good info!

The weatherstripping I used had small perforated holes in it, I assumed it was to help it collaspe when the door was closed.

I bought the weatherstrip door kit from LMC Trucks. I'll see if it improves after a couple of weeks.

yea try locking it with out pushing in on the door...

you can always adjust the striker ....to help correct the problem...

To the best of my knowledge and meager personal weatherstrip experience, Softseal is the best weatherstrip out there. I've read this in several classic car auto mags, too. But I'm no restoration expert, so take this with a grain of salt.

I can provide a 60-72 vender that only sells Softseal weatherstrip for our trucks because he knows from personal experience and customer satisfaction that Softseal makes quality pieces.

I have used both and sell both. Soft seal is twice the money. I use them on my nicer trucks.

Well after having the door shut for the rest of Saturday and all of Sunday, the door is back to normal. It closed perfectly fine this morning. Now on to the driver's side.

Bill Athey told me to try a neat trick. Poke several small holes around the gasket where you won't see them to relieve some pressure. I used a test light probe.
