Question Weird VIN/model code

I just got my restoration packet today and started checking numbers for fun.. I had always thought my truck had a bed swap from long step to long fleet because of my VIN:
CE148S143xxx
Should be a long stepside. Maybe rare, it is a big block cst..
I checked the glovebox sticker model code and it has CE10934, long fleetside. ??
I'm pretty sure the glovebox sticker is original, it has a small sticker on the bottom with the salesman's name and old style phone # from a dealership in Garland. Has anyone ever ran across this sort of thing? I'm not real worried about the whole #'s matching thing, the original block was gone before I bought it. But I do think it's weird... Maybe some mixup at the factory, or a last minute special order??

Can you decifer what bed came with your truck from the VIN? I thought you could only get that from the model code on the glove box sticker. I am not sure, but I am sure someone will pipe in.
What do you use to decode? I have only used this board's decoder and GMCPaul's decoder.

I think I just figured it out, the 4 in the vin just means it it a pickup (thanks Rod for your earlier post). That's what I get for reading the vin decoder in the LMC catalog. I always thought they had an extra # in there.

You got a 68 long bed fleetside.

09 of the model number tells you cab to rear axle dimension..in your case 54 inches...and if its a GMC they use the number 59 to mean 54 inches...thats just the way it is.

34 means a fleetside bed..which you have if the avatar is your truck.

Basically its a 68 1/2 ton with a v8, fleetside longbox, built in
St Louis.

The 4 in the vin identifies it had a box..not what type..the model number decodes to the type" fleetside" code 34 and lenght 09 =54 inch.. so a long box...gets simple after you answer the question a couple hundred times..lol
