The Longhorn may be dead...this sucks.

So here I am, runnin her down the freeway takin my baby sister to work, and then headin to the shop. Buzzin down the freeway, still smiling and lovin life.
First...smelled a little smoke.
then, engine started to labor...bogged down a bit.
That's about when I looked at the oil guage....5psi at 4000 RPM.

It started knocking as I pulled over.

Checked the oil...it's full. Looked for leaks...none to be found.

New oil pump caosts about 122 b ucks (again, with my discount)...rebuild kit is 26 bucks, but it won't be in untill wed or thurs.

I guess I won't know untill then if it is junk or not.

huge bummer. I'm going to go cry some more.

Andy Not what I wanted to hear. 1 good thing is the old caddy engine could take low pressure for a little while high chrome.
It wasn't burning any was it?
No silver in the oil was a good sign.
Hopefully it will just be the pump. Chin up all the hard work has been done.

Geese Andy, when it rains it pours for some people. What was your water temp? Did you have water boiling in the system (your overflow tank) after pulling over and shutting down? These big engines can take some abuse and keep going, at least you were within the city and not on a road trip.

Odd enough, the (mechanical) temp guage crapped out on me. (!!??) The heat comin out the defroster vent was pretty hot though, so I say yeah, it was pretty warm, and my puke tank was full instead of 1/3 full, but not boiling. Glad my dad has aaa...i guess I oughta get it now that I don't have some one yellin that we don't need it and we'd never use it and

Definately chech the fluids for mixing (white sludge on dip stick or in radiator). You may have just run her a bit warm. Since she was losing power, I'd go ahead and pull a rod cap off and check the berrings while you have the cover off.

no water in the oil, that is certian.

In all reality, i wouldn't know what to look for on the bearing anyways...onless it is painfully obviouse.
Since the oil pump is external, I'm just going to remove, rebuild, and install it and see if the engine made it through OK.
i wouldn't have time to pull the engine untill next sautrday anywasy.

Andy, sorry to hear that man. I would check the valve train just to rule that area out.

You will definitely be able to tell if a bearing is worn by looking at it. Look at the surface. If you see any scoring, copper or other wear, then you need to put some bearings in... If you need to do the rods/mains, I would suggest checking the crank for any damage. If there is some damage, I am sure you could polish it out with some crocus & emery cloth.....

Man, that does suck though.... Wishin' the best...

Gawd Longhorn that bites. I heard that sound before and it sounds like SH!!tteeett.
Check the gear on the dizzy and make sure it didn't dissolve on you. She probably would've quit instantly on you if that was it,but you never know.
Good Luck anyhow

Ok, Andy, I'm predicting it's just a pump. You seem to attract the bad luck, so I'm going to say this time you're owed one.

Naaa, I don't attract bad luck, I have good luck more than anything.
This one is a total bummer though.

You shoulda heard the lady when i called the insurance company up...she said "Didn't I talk to you yesterday...when you dropped the Town Car? You know you can't just swap coverage from vahicle to vehicle just so you can drive them both but pay insurance for one.
When I explained what happend she laughed and said sorry.
