Unhappy sometimes it shakes..sometimes it doesnt??

hey all my 69 K-10 has recently started having a bit of a problem. Every now and then while I am driving over 45 mph my truck will start to shake a little not very bad but it hurts the ride if you know what I mean, then within a couple of minutes it stops and rides really smooth and it is really enjoyable. What is wrong or where should I start looking? anyone ever have this type of problem before and what fixed it?
Thanks, Brad.

First thing I would check is the tires for balance. It is someplace to start.

Check your driveshaft also. Mine was doing something similar to your problem the other day so I went and got a new hanger bearing ( Iknew it was bad already). When I went to take the driveshaft out I noticed one of the four bolts was missing. BUT when I went back to the rear end I also found the other three were loose! I took them out by hand without tools they were so loose. After I made the repairs the vibration was gone.

I drove a '65 4x4 that did that. It would go into a horrible tank slapper and just about break your thumbs. It was a combination of worn, out of balance tires and loose steering ball joints. The wheels would just flop back and forth until you slowed down or sped up.

Inspect your tires closely for a shifted belt also.

All of the above, plus check your wheel lugs and be sure they are torqued.

o.k. cool tomorrow I will go by a tire shop here in town and have them inspect the tires, then to my friends shop across the road where we can put the truck up on a lift and inspect for loose or worn bearings. the only thing that gets me is that it only does it every now and then, and if you speed up or slow it doesnt matter it still shakes and then after a little bit of driving its fine again???
Thanks guys.

Mines done this for years. Replaced literally everything, still does it. I've changed wheels, tires, driveline, transmission, engine, alignment, front suspension, rear end, rear bushings.. you name it. Still does it.. Shakes sorta side to side.. then a minute later everythings smooth for awhile.

Steering box has been replaced. It's 2 wheel drive, but i have thought about the dampner.

Also the wheel doesnt shake at all. The whole truck sorta rocks side to side.

Maybe it's the muffler bearings:P

Be sure to have a look at the A arm bushing also.Upper and lower.Idler arms are usually the first thing to go in the front.

LMAO! Probably wont beleive it, but all a-arms have also been replaced. And all have new bushings and ball joints too. All new front end parts, converted from drum to disc. New drums in the rear.. Nothings ever changed the shaking. Over the years I've replaced every single part of this truck, except the cab itself and the frame. About the only original part inside the cab is the speedo. Thought about frame being bent or something, but no sign of that. And tires last with no abnormal wear. I've pretty much given up on finding the problem at this point. It just keeps driving. Theres 486,000 miles on the cab and frame!

Fan clutch?

I had the same problem a few years ago. Shook like crazy over 40 mph. Drove me nuts. I finally found out that my fan clutch was in need of replacing. Simple, yet soooo satisfying.

Good luck
