It's time to let it out about rice burners!!!!!!

What do you guys and or girls on this board think of rice burners, you know those cars with fart can mufflers, racing stickers (supposed to give an H.P. gain ), and of course the dumb drivers.... I personally do not favor them. What do you think?????

I doubt they are going to be around for all that long considering the way I see all of them weaving through traffic while yakking on the celly. I think it is only a matter of time before they all "die out" so to speak.

don't forget that if you get in a crash your car will survive much better than if you were in a plastic or tin can car

Have to agree, in college I had a Honda CRX (HF) that got over 35 MPG, miss that little roller skate sometimes... at least that mileage. Every era has it's thing I guess and to be honest, if my son grows up and wants to hop one up, and the car will KEEP him out of trouble, I'm cool with that!

At first I hated the hole thing, then I see there side, think of it, we all went through it but with this generation these kids cant afford the big v8 cars and those cars are getting far and few between, not like us where every car out there was a v8 2 door, I hate the extreme things they do, but I give them credit for still having the passion for cars, I have seen a 4 cyl put out 1000HP, dont know how it stayed together, but it did....just feel sorry for there kids,,,,what will they fix up?

I say let them have those one lung POS cars, otherwise they would be putting blue neon lights and Lambo doors on our nice cars.

every car has a purpose. i hate the step ladder, space ship, antenna towered looking wings and the whoopi cushion mufflered cars out there. on the other hand there are some that are pretty nice and handle, ride, and go like hell. as long as they keep the cheesiness out of them, it's alright with me. i just hate when they pull up next to me and i have my big block at the end of my right foot. then they start revving their 1.8L up and looking at me. i just shake my head a bit, smile, and watch them turn into a speck in my mirror.

Off topic: 71meangreenc10 how hard was that Dakota Dash to install? I assume it's the digital dash? I've got one sitting in my closet awaiting a trip to the body shop to pain the interior before I install it (or have them do it).

On topic: I hate the rice, but I respect that they're just doing what they can to feed the power addiction. Have you priced 8 cylinder power lately on a McDonald's income? It ain't happening man, so a 4 year old 4 cylinder is about all today's (non rich) kids can afford so I guess they're doing what they can with what they got. I still hate it, but I can at least see some of their point of view.

Ricers just don't pull alongside my truck acting foolish, you'll look a lot more foolish when a truck that's probably still blowing hay outta the bed from my last trip to the feed mill absolutely leaves your rice in the dust

i've seen interviews with DON GARTLIS,CARROLL SHELBY & GEORGE BARRIS and they were all asked that question all replied that they thought highly of the new generations ingenuity so hell if it's good enough for them ??????????
although it's not something i'd do ,i appreciate good craftsmanship and someone creating something unique for themselves

not even worth my time and energy, but hey its a result of a misguided soul playing too many video games and watching too many cheesy tv shows that they strive for an elusive and unattainable Kewl status with a econobox... the cars ain't got no soul... like 7up... NEVER HAD IT, NEVER WILL!!!!

I think the ricer thing is slowly dying out. It will probably never die completely, but if you really look into the performance upgrades for those things, they are a TON of money. It takes a LOT to get a 4-banger to run well (consistently and reliably).

Glad to see 'em go.

Well being only 22 I think my opion should be here. First I hate ricers that THINK they are fast. I make fun of the supersized wings, giaganto wheels, ugly paint. When people add those 22" wheels to a civic to give it more ground clearance then my truck...well I almost fall over .

Anyway but in there defense. I think when you can make soe serious power to back up that coffee can well great. I have a friend that has a 97 eagle talon tsi awd. On the dyno it creates 727hp. You might have to see it to believe but I have seen it. You can litterally hear the car coming a mile away between the 3" exhaust, external waste gate, and the blow off valve. I have been in it when it was running and we hillbilly ran it over a half mile bridge....half way over from a standing start we were doing 130. I nearly pissed my pants.
The problem though was it was never reliable. Some days it started others it didn't. After about a week of trying to get it started it finally gave into our demands. The next night the crank pulley snapped allowing the timing belt to jump 6 notches....you can guess what happened. I was not there but I got do see the motor apart....DAMN. I never saw that cam scored that bad or a hole that big in the pistons. Needless to say it won't be moving for quite a while. His car looks completely stock except for the 17" wheels and the 4.5" exhaust tip.

In my opinion ricers are great if they can pull a 11 or 12 sec quarter mile. Otherwise they should be banned. I will always be a dedicated Chevy man, but when I see one of those cars that can actually do something it gets my respect.

That was my little rant.

Mike

I have to go along with meangreen on this one. The younger generation just has less to work with than some of us older folks. I can't imagine not growing up in the muscle car era. As kids we had alot more to work with in the old camaros, gtos, cutlass's and yes I said it Mustangs. We took all the speed and power for granted but I can always look back and say remember when I owned that car. and the reverance those cars had and still hold today!!! Todays younger generation raised on Accords, civics and minivans will most likely lose that . Most cars made today are just designed to get you from point a to b , Who is ever gonna remember that years from now!!
