Motor Mount Question

Can someone tell me for sure if the motor mount towers are the same or different between the big block and the small block?

Also can someone post a picture of an actual BB motor mount itself?

And lastly, if someone had a part number for NAPA to purchase the motor mount for a big block that would be awesome.

Thanks!

Reid

no pics here...but they are DEFINATLY different.
There are 2 different big block towers... the 68 - 71...diret cheap, but the motor mounts are expensive...the 72 style, the towers are expensive...but the motor mounts are cheap.

Hmmmm that sucks then. I had a pair of small block ones laying around and cleaned them & painted them already. I took a quick look at the ones already in my '70 (402) and thought they looked the same. Are the small block ones just taller? What is the noticable difference?

Thanks for the help!

I believe the BB towers are notched for the exhaust manifold. I used SB towers in my '68 when I put the 396 in it. I don't remember if I modified them or what. I used headers. Oh yea... BB towers have a huge hole in them for the bolt to the mount.

Read the article I did in the FAQ section on cheap big block mounts. It shows how to use the cheap early big block stands with small block rubbers.

I've been through this frustration before a few times, so I posted pictures and descriptions. Using the article, you can get big block mounts pretty cheap.

BB rubber mount GM NOS part number 3997595 for 68-71...there ya go. Thats what was listed when I saw it posted somewhere. I couldn't find the number in my parts book..but thats not so unusual as numbers changed over the years. My parts book lists the numbers 3986604 as mounting, engine -front, upper for engine front 68-71 396/400.

Excellent! Thats what I need.

I already have a set of small and a set of the big stands, but I hadn't realized they were different, as the BB stands are still in the old frame with the motor on them. (couldn't see the difference)

Now all I need is to find a new pair of the rubber mounts.

Nevermind, they don't line up with the factory holes.
