Well, I rebuilt the oil pump last night. Pretty simple jb really, and interesting how it actually works too.
Fired it up and was greeted to almost 50 psi at idle. Of course, i used 15/40 oil too...but still.
I let it warm up a bit as I looked at the oil I drained....it was a pretty silver color.

Then i cut the oil filter open, and was greeted with a one inch by one inch chunk of piston skirt...and enough metal flake to paint 5 bass boats.

Went back to the still running truck, was getting warmed up, i kicked off the choke, brought the idle down to the 550 or so that it is set at, and slowly started to rev it up.
sounded good all the way up to about 2000 or so when it started to sound like a 6.2/6.5 diesel. Not good.
Then it started. At 2500-ish, a definate solid knock....or two.

I got a local guy lookin for a cheap replacement. I guess all the hard work has been done, and all i really need is a 425/472/500 long block...I have all the specific parts on my engine.

At least I can still move it around the lot...and limp it home if need be.

OUCH! So sorry to hear that. I guess that is the risk we take with these old trucks and the used parts we put into them. I hope you find another good engine soon.

Well...it was fun while it lasted. I got about 75 or so awsome miles out of it. That sunofa***** was a blast to drive. i've never had an engine rated at lass than 200 horses that was able to paint a grin from ear to ear on my face. No joke..I was grinnin the whole time I was driving it.

Dam Andy I was hoping you could save it. That reminds me of the time my 53 ford flathead started smoking really bad so I pulled the oil pan and pieces of oil ring s were in the bottom. I slapped the pan back on and drove it to the dealer and traded it in on a nice 57 ford sedan. Later I asked the salesman what happened to it and he said he sold it to some illegal aliens. Ha Ha.

Hey Andy sorry to hear about the motor problem! This may be a bad time to ask, but are you still interested in the Longhorn bed you looked at a few years ago? I still have it. I need to start cleaning up the place. It's still free to a good home as long as you take the chassis with it. OK so it's free to a bad home also, just want it out of here.

While you're looking, try to find some gears that'll keep the revs friendly to the Caddy.

Sounds like the piston broke and plugged everything up with shavings. Thus, 5 psi of oil.

The block could possibly be okay, depends on how much damage to the cylinder wall. dang

beggars can't be choosers 70 402....I'll put in what ever I can...hell, a stock 425 has more ass than any stock chevy engine I've ever driven....and many of the modified ones.

The 425 may have more 'ASS' than a Chevy, but it probably wouldn't have blown up on you!

Yeah...becouse chevys run so good with no oil pressure.

You ever seen the cross hatch pattern in a 60,000 mile old chevy cylinderwall?
How about 125,000 mile block with no ridge up top of the cylinder?
Imagine towing with a 3.07 gear, turning only 2500 RPM, and having over 500 ft pounds of torque at that rpm. Nothing could stop you...hell, that's better than plenty of diesels...granted, not todays diesels, but the ones of 5 to 8 years ago...and any 6.5 ever built.
Caddy engines are better than chevy at everything except spinning RPMs. (stock for stock)
