Pricing on madrel bend exhuast?
trying to get some over all figures on pricing for an mandrel bend exhuast system?
Seeing where piecing my own exhuast system would be more cost effienct since you can get straight, angled, and donut shape pipes now-a-days. Also any info on H and X pipe setup would be great. Last edited by Alexis; 03-11-2005 at 03:26 PM. |

After looking and not finding a bolt on solution that would fit a shortbed, I
called a local guy who quoted me $400 for a dual alum custom exhaust including an h-pipe and dual turbo mufflers.

Nope, compression bends. But from what the guy told me just about any custom
shop will only be able to do compression bends. The mandrel equipment is pretty huge and most shops wont be able to house it. The guy is local to us, Kwik-Way in San Jose on Keily. 408-244-4540. He was recomended by my mechanic.

there was no one around here that had a mandrel bender so i bought 4 u bends of aluminized pipe from summit and did my own exhaust system... the bends were like 60 bucks and i just bought a 10 foot length of pipe from my local muffler shop... i think all together i spent like 120 bucks and made my own collectors and dumped the pipes after the rear end...

402, that is what i was planning on doing..............actually since most of my exhuast system is done I just wanted the cut out the areas that where creased by the machine and replace it with smooth mandrel bent pipe.
Also adding in a H pipe setup and setting it up for headers. I plan on powder coating it, anyone ever have any issues doing this? |

If You Have A "magnaflow" Dealer In Your Town You Can Get
Mandrel Bent, But It's Gonna Cost Ya, Here A Stick Of 2.5" Is Around $44.95, They Bend It To Fit Your Truck, Then It's Sent To Magnaflow And They Copy It With A Mandrel Bender, And Then It Is Sent Back To The Shop 2 A Tune Of Probably Triple The Cost Of The Original Pipe, I Was Gonna Do This But Cost, Out Weighed The Feasability For My Project, Just My $0.02

I never knew that, Mr. Luv. Another option to keep in mind. Thanks.
Alexis, I think ceramic-metallic coatings would hold up better. Often, local powder coaters can do both. Maybe they'll know what will hold up best. Like ceramic to the muffler and powder on back.

We had a pretty good discussion awhile back concerning making your own exhaust. I persoanlly do it like the guy above said and buy mandrel bends through the mail and fit them together with muffler shop straight pipe pieces. There are some pictures of an exhaust me and my father in law built on his 67 Mustang in the thread to use for visual.
