Question What weight oil do you use?

What weight oil do you use. I had a recent oil change and they put in 10W30. It's been in the mid 90's for several days now and my oil pressure has gone down. I'm thinking of 20W50. The engine only has 2500 miles and the oil pump is new. The only thing I can think of is viscocity break down. Any help?

All I had last time I changed it was 5W30, so that's what's in there. No knocking or anything.

Going to 10W30 or 40 next time, though.

20w50 dino oil. I'd run a thinner grade or synthetic (since heavier dino oil takes more power to slosh around, that kinda thing) but it leaks/burns enough as-is.

When I get a new engine I'll start with 10w30 synth and go from there. The Vortec in our '97 Suburban is perfectly happy year-round in AZ with 10w30, but the LT1 in the '94 Z28 never builds enough pressure with it, so it gets 15w50, as does the Benz.

I ran 10 40 for years and years, but a recent discussion on oils with a petroleum engineer has changed my ways! He said that 10 40 was the first variable viscosity oil and that either 10 30 or 20 50 weights take less additives and manipulations to achieve than the 10 40 and as a result, they were better lubricants. Take it as you will, but I have switched to 10 30 in my cars and 20 50 in my trucks.

My high milage 250 uses a steady diet of 20-50. 15-40 just escapes from the crankcase too fast.
