What'd ya get done this weekend?
Ken is MIA, so I hope he doesn't mind if this gets started in his absense.
What did you get done this weekend? I had to work all day Saturday, and today was chore day...so not too much truck related happened. I did however get two parts I ordered in for Yeller, both of which will be used to complete my fuel cell install.

Sold the 74 and started getting the 89 ready to go for next week. I did a bunch of TBI re-wiring, and started on some interior work

Jeff, Thanks for picking up my slack. I have been on the run all weekend so I haven't had much time to get in line.
My daughter had a major volleyball tournament this weekend. I spent Saturday until 3:00 watching her team win their pool. Then I spent the rest of the day running around town repairing video games. Sunday was the second round of the tournament. Her team played very good, but not good enough. They got beat in the first round of the play-off's but it was an awesome match. After that I drove all over town repairing more games again. What did you get done? BTW Jeff- Nice parts... |

Jeff-
Looks cool. I'll be interested to see how you're going to install it. ('Flush'-mounted on the bed floor?) On the portion of Horsepower TV that I caught today, they were showing a clip of the Las Vegas 'Hot Summer Nights'. In the background of their 'on-the-street' clip, I saw a 73-87 yellow truck parked. It was nice. The last couple of days, I spent swapping out the brake hoses, calipers, wheel cylinders and brake shoes. Flushed and bled the braking system. While I was at it, I packed the rotors and lube the front suspension. I also had to replace a couple of fairly new tie rod boots. [Non-truck related: I also replaced the front brake pads on a newer Grand AM GT.] BTW, I just received the Helm's Shop Manual.

Friday i had a birthday party for my daughter who turned 4. The best thing she got was a game we got her called Balloon Lagoon. It was rated one of the best games. Any of you who have young children (4-8) should look into this game..
i once again had drill (National Guard). It however was my last drill, after 6yrs i have decided to take a break.. I had 3 choices.. re-enlist, go to IRR (Individual Ready Reserve..2yr requirement...high risk of deployment with a bunch of people i dont know)... or ING (Inactive National Guard...1 yr requirement..still attached to my company so if i get deployed i will go with the people i know, but i dont have to do monthly drills and annual training.).. I choose ING for 1 year and will most likely reenlist for another year active guard to complete my 6+2 enlistment.. (6yrs active, 2 yrs inactive).. After that i will most likely be done and move on with my life... but will decide that for sure in the next 2 yrs. Tonight i did however find out that a bolt on the very front crossmember that connect to the frame at the steering box... has come loose and now the frame is flexing... will attempt to remove the bolt and replace it tomorrow....

Friday I went and ran my moms new 2005 mustang at thunder valley raceway in the high school braket, went to the finals, and got r/u.Saturday I finished welding up my door handles, block sanded bout 4 more times, hopefully got the cab ready for paint. Took the dragster to Whitchata Falls got to the semis, blew a tire out on the trailor on the way home. Sunday I finally found me a rust free short bed, for free, lil body work needed, plan on shavin the tail lights, gas doors, and everything else shaveable on them, and puttin a roll pan on. I got the slots cut out of the shaved tail gate skin for my 10 inch leds, hopefully its ready to weld on. Took the week off from work since its spring break and im out of school to finish the truck hopefully. Just needs a lil more block sanding on the cab, cab is completly shaved theres not another think u can shave on it, cept the glass of course. The bed Im switchin out the front peaces and tail gates, bed sides are pretty good, borroed a stud gun from my buddy, so ima get it done, gotta make dust off.

My '77 had been down for a while as I swapped the 350TH/203 for a 400TH/205. Friday afternoon I got my resized driveshafts back and after putting them in, I spent most of the weekend cruising around town.

boxrodz, it will in fact be flush mounted, but within a flat "ring" (welded and smoothed to the ribbed bed floor) to tie it together...if that makes sense.
BTW - did you see "Trucks", when Stacey was talking about Big Blaze? Sounds like the person who purchased it after the build, yanked all the good stuff from it (engine, trans, etc...)...and the remains ended up on a used car lot. Sad ending to a very cool, and tough, late 80's Blazer.

I did see that on Trucks...I guess that was before I started watching it.
I helped my buddy tune up his 50 Ford (his Grandpa's car, all original, with a 239 Flathead). We are getting it safe to drive with new steering components, brakes, and some new red steelies and tires.

This weekend I put another 500 miles on my 86 diesel doing some parts swapping. Today I bought Cannonball Run on DVD for the specific purpose of getting some vidcaps of the Indy Hauler like this one:

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure if you were going to try to recess cap below the bed floor ribs. I think I follow you about flush-mounting the cap on the ribs by adding a ring as a spacer. Quote:

I put the parking brake assembly, fusebox and surroundings back in after fixing a water leak (leaking where the fusebox goes through the firewall. What a PITA if you don't have small hands, I cut up my arms. Who ever decided to put the ground bus on the pedal assembly in that spot should be shot. Now I have to adjust the front e brake calbe because the pedal doens't come back enough to break contact on the warning light switch (bubba unplugged the connector to keep the light off and also cut the wire to the diff. pressure switch.

Nothing much, just assembled a few misc parts on the truck and prepared the motor and tranny to be ready for drop into the truck.

Not much truck stuff here. Drove my daughter to the north part of the state for an interview. She is going through a selection process to attended an alternative High School (School of Math and Science) for her Jr and Sr years. So I was around a bunch of young super nerd/geeks. I think my daughter was the only one that understood vehicles that didn't bling.

I went down to Austin to help a friend with his 72 Chevy truck. We replaced the carb, intake, and distributor. Runs great now. After that, we finished pulling off parts we need off of an 87 Regal T-type, and sent the rest to the junkyard.
While we were there, we went walking, and I found a mint set of bucket seats in a truck. They wouldn't let me have the floor brackets, but I bought the seats, a nice dash bezel with a radio delete plate, and a nice gauge cluster.

After over a year of sitting I restarted on my '79. Got the front valence, lenses, headlights, door handles, locks and shocks installed.
Oh yeah...got the tires mounted and put the 22's on it....in case anyone is curious...a 325/40 BARELY fits in the rear wheel well....may have to "massage" it a bit though. Pics coming soon.
