Steering column Qs
Is there a replacement bearing available for the upper steering column shaft? Is it difficult/a hassle to replace?
Is it "normal" for the steering shaft to have about 1-2" of 'play' in the front to back(or in/out) direction? I was tightening my turn signal lever this weekend and I found I couldn't get the steering wheel back on. After about 30 minutes I realized the shaft had been pushed down a little bit so the wheel and shaft splines weren't meeting. I was able to get the shaft pulled up a little and then everything went back together and feels fine, and works fine. Does anyone have any pics of "original" cruise control/turn signal levers? Mike

The upper bearing is available and installs easily.
I would suggest checking the spring on the lower end of the steering column. When the steering wheel is installed onto the shaft the tension of the spring keeps the bearings seated and you can overcome the spring by pulling on the steering wheel. Jim |
