This could get ugly
This will probably get moved to General Discussion but I'm posting it here because it affects the 67-72 board.
What's with all the moving of posts? On the first page alone 7 posts have been moved from the 67-72 board to other boards. I can see moving posts if they have nothing to do with 67-72 model trucks (like do you wear boxers or briefs). But why move it just because it happens to be about paint, or suspension? I'm only interested in things that affect my model of truck. I don't want to have to search 5 different boards to find the info. And how do you decide when to move a post? If all the post about engines are move to the "ENGINE" board, we'd have a hard time telling what year's were talking about - 47-55?, 55-59?, 60-66?, or 67-72. Hey, it's not my board and you can manage it anyway you like, but my vote is to lump the boards by model years, not subject matter.

Yep, a starter could fall on your face from any year. Most of these polls affect many years.
This type of stuff is tough to call because a carb problem on an 72 can be the same as on a 73?! Its gona get ugly.....

I agree there is too much moving going on. And with no real logic to it ethier. There are many posts that belong in General, if you want to get picky, but are left alone forever. Then there are post that get moved instantly. I like the idea of by the year and get rid of all the other stuff. If you put a post about a motor on Engine&Drivetrain it could be days before anybody responds, but if you put it on the message board the repounse will be almost instant. My 2 cents.

99% OF THE POSTS ARE MOVED BY THE SAME ADMINISTATOR, WHILE SOME PEOPLES POST ARE LEFT STRICKTLY ALONE.
WHATS UP WITH THAT ??????

Seems to me the logic in making the move makes sense; it's like filing-for some people it's easy, for others it'll never make sense.
I think the way it's done keeps the board more organized. Keep up the good work.

its to try to make it so people actually do use those boards, if i move a topic like that i ussaly will wait tell the question has been answered, if its something someone needs to know NOW
ive been to alot of other boards that have a engine, suspension, etc..... board and they are used approritly and it works great, makes less clutter on the main board i dont see why you think this would get ugly though, your just making suggestions

I didn't mean ugly as in starting a fight. I meant ugly as in trying to decide which post goes to what boards. For instance, if a post talks about painting an engine, where would it go - engines or paint?

ok, lol thats a good point,
anthor thing i think we should do is move all the other forums to the top, and have 67-72 message and 67-72 parts below them, than all the other year boards that no one hardly uses at the bottom, i think that would help things out

Well most posts about engines do not say what year the engine itself is anyway so that point is moot. As for painting an engine and determining what board it goes to only takes some comman sense. The question of painting an engine has nothing to do with the engine except that it is the item being painted, but is actually asking what type or kind of paint to use in that application. So the question is actually about paint and not the engine.

These are all good points so far, but I would like to remind you to look at this from the administrator's point of view (Josh, Mongo, 68 Stepside, etc....).
Lets say we just made categories like we have now: Paint and Body Engine Suspension Driveline ...etc... ...and we put the years UNDER those, so there was a 47-55, 55-59, 60-66, 67-72, etc. under EACH category. Well, that would be ok for us members, but an administrative nightmare for the admins. 1/2 of the members on the board would have to volunteer to do some moderating on some of the categories. It would also be way harder to post because you'd have to navigate around all the time. There would be WAY too many directories to monitor. We can't very well leave things alone either, because the instinct of about 90% of the members is to jump right to the Message Board, and post whatever they want regardless of category. I'm sure Josh and others have statistics that show the amount of lazy posting by us has overwhelmed the number of archived posts in the Message Board directory, while others go unvisited. They're obviously trying to get people to post where things should be posted, but the topics that sort of fit between topics are hard to judge on, so I guess it depends on the individual Admin's judgement. I bet they're also trying to divide the workload so that 1 or 2 admins aren't trying to moderate 1000 posts, while others only have 10 or 20 to look at. It's a vicious circle. We don't visit the other categories because no one posts there, yet no one posts there because no one visits them. I for one think they're doing exactly what they should be doing. There are a couple of categories they could create to make the distinction easier to make (like "Carburetors", "Transmissions", "Differentials", "Welding" and "Electrical") but that's just my opinion.

I don't think it will be a prob when people get used to the idea. It was different years ago when posts were a lot fewer but now organisation is a must to keep the clutter down. In fact there should be a board for questions asked over 100 times per year, eg. how do I remove the ignition bezel?, how do I drop my leaf suspension?, HEI conversion question, or my favourite, Starter problem...HELP! lol
Leave the Admins to do what they think best is my opinion.

I agree with Spoofs idea. The biggest clutter on this board by far is the same questions that get asked over and over and over. A FAQ section could help if you could get anyone to look at it. lol

Oh....whatever. Come on Spoof and Tom Hand! Those are just terrible ideas! Grow up you two...
J/K lol Is that what it means to "get ugly"?

Hopefully, now that we have the search function working again, some of the "repeat" questions will go away, but a FAQ section would be good also.

I agree with Brad. The board is constantly expanding, with more members and more posts daily. It definately helps to have some sort of filing system in place. The 67-72 "message" board already seems too general in it's coverage - how about dividing it into 67-72 "technical" and 67-72 "trucks/projects" for a start? It would be good if more more folks checked the non-year specific boards... the 67 message board gets an average of 7 replies per thread, but the engine/drivetrain board gets only 1 reply per thread. I think more people would use the non-year boards if the reply rate was higher.

I truth it really doesn't matter what they do with the board now. It has so many new buttons and cool features it will be a long time before too many people notice whats getting posted. LOL

I think what the administrators are doing is the correct thing.
With the huge amount of post that the 67-72 message board gets, topics get pushed off the page very quickly. It takes allot of time to sift through it all. For people who don't have hours at a time, several times a day to surf the board allot of the topics get buried and not seen. It is in the boards best interest to spread post out in order to ease the navigation process. This way one can choose what they want to read about any given topic. MHO Denny |

I think we all need to look at the other boards more (me included). I don't spend enough time on the suspension board. I would like to a seperate board for Polls though!!LOL. I think that if you guys were administrators it would be just as good and just as bad. There are always several ways to do things and most of the time there is more than one right way.

OK...i find myself not posting...because im not sure where to post..and what exactly do you post on the general message board....board trips?....Polls on anything under the sun?..I used to be able to post any question with out fear of being chastised..my opinion is for the administrators to be more forgiving with the post....I used to look forward to reading post on engine questions or drive train on the main board...but now..all I get is an arrow saying moved

There is a tech articles page that lists topics that get asked over and over again... like a FAQ (frequently asked question)area.
If more board members would write article that they feel they answer over and over again, perhaps we can just link the new question to that page for the newbie. There are only 4 articles on that page, and I wrote three of them 3 years ago. Give it a go members, build a database of typically asked and answered question... submit them to Josh.... maybe have a few people go over it to find any flaws. Here that page link to ferequently asked questions. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/tech/index.html Lets build it up. Rod

look at the VERY bottom of the board, there is a forum for FAQ SUBMISSIONS if any of you feel like writing a tech article, go there and post! or if anyone sees a real good thread that covers a topic very well..... email or PM me the link and i'll move it there (after its a few pages back of course!)
and when me, Les, TJ, Josh, Rod, Mongo or any of the admins move a topic it is NOOOOOOOOOOOOT personal, that has NOTHING to do with it

I've been coming here for quite some time now and have never even clicked on suspension, engine/drivetrain & paint/body.
I only go to the 67-72 board and occasionally general to share a joke. Im not compalining because this is the best website on the net, bar none! If votes are being taken, I agree, go by the year.
