The windshield 'squirter' is located under your dash and from what i can see it's a HUGE pain in the rear to get to. I'd say find a cheapo one from a store or a junkyard and slap it next to the bottle for a temp thing, if you want later i think you can get those washer pumps from somewhere.

You can rebuild the pump if you have the radio out. Most auto parts stores have rebuild kits.

Its a good idea to check out the system before condemming the pump. If it clicks but does not squirt, check the screen in the reservoir and the hose from the reservoir to the pump, (as best as you can). If that seems to be ok, try to prime the pump by pulling the hose off of the reservoir and pour the hose full while an assistant activates the switch. Sometimes you can get them going because the piston and check valves dry up if not used.
If you cannot make it work no matter what you do, then you can add a pump on by the reservoir, (or in the reservoir) and wire it in. Your pump activation switch grounds the solenoid. Another option is to buy a new GM pump which is an improved design over the old one and it mounts like the original. They are pricey, ($55 give or take). I have not had much luck with rebuilds, because usually the piston wears and then the fluid leaks by, (the new pumps have a diaphram instead of a piston). Good luck! Jim |

you can access the two bolts if your radio is removed and the lower bolt can be accessed with an extension through the ignition switch hole.

WOW! I can't believe how strict some of you guys have it! Won't pass because of the pissers not working? Sure glad I don't live where you do.
Where I go, they check the lights and tires and put a sticker on it. (they do know me though) I don't even have back up lights! On the washers themselves, if they aren't clicking like the above poster mentioned, your best off buying a new pump that replaces your old one. I tried those add on ones and they never worked right for me. Pull the whole wiper motor out to do the job. I had no trouble replacing my wiper motor with everything installed in the dash.

I've got to agree, failing an inspection for the squirters not working is absurd. Here in Oklahoma, we completely dropped inspections a year ago. They were the biggest farce around, anyway.

Thanks for your advice, a new one from GM is $80 and they do not list a rebuild kit. Yes the inspection thing is a joke, if saftey was so important they should get all the 90+ year old people to rewite their road exam or get them off the roads. ROB

Wow that is right bad, here in VA they only have a problem if both the headlights are not working...........If You had antique tags, you wouldn't have that problem Jack

I had to put my 71 thru emissions test yesterday. Have to yearly to renew the plates. The plates renewal is 20.00, emissions test was 11.75. Passed with flying colors. Good for another year.

Yes that is $80 Canadian or about $5 US.......LOL. I will get that rebuild kit and give it a go.
It is called a saftey inspection, I got pulled over by the piloce and they check your vehicle over, if you have a crack in the windsheild, worn shocks or rust it can fail and the vehicle gets taken off the road untill all the stuff is corrected. The rear drums where out of spec, needed a better battery tie down, new belts, valve cover seals, parking brake cables, U joints, new shoes and rear brake parts, exhaust, sqirter fixed, 4 shocks, new cab supports, cab corners, rocker panels and 2 small holes patched in the floor. This is a random thing as well, I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It then costs $75 to get it inspected to get a sticker you take to the police to get your vehicle replated. Thanks for the advice. ROB |

Sounds to me like its time to move. No offense, but I'd not take that crap. Especially since everything you described is what it would take to make mine like new again and I have just accepted. Jeff.

Here's how rough the inspection is in Georgia. Bought the truck on Monday,, got a bill of sale written on a page out of a datebook,,, better half took it to the courthouse on tuesday, forged my signature and giv'em 20 bucks for the antique tag. No title, no inspection, no matching VIN's.
Oh yeah,,,,,my Ad Valorem (property taxes) on it are $3.50!!!!
